Position Description

AMS School Nurse

Minimum Qualifications and Training:

  • Registered Nurse with a BSN or Masters degree preferred
  • Active Tennessee Nursing License
  • At least three (3) years successful clinical experience school nursing experienced preferred
  • Proficient in computers to include FileMaker Pro database spreadsheet and word processing and applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively by oral and written means
    Strong group processing and presentation skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels
  • Knowledge of basic health/medical office procedures and equipment
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Identifies the health care needs of specific student populations and the availability of health services/resources to address those needs
  • Assesses and evaluates the effectiveness of the services and health care plans
  • Collaborates with a variety of school system and professional disciplines to enhance the educational process and the promote an optimal level of wellness for students families and staff
  • Coordinates and participates in the establishment review and implementation of school health/services policies and procedures
  • Assures that such policies and related procedures adhere to legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards of nursing practice
  • Plans assesses and evaluates the health services component of the coordinated school health program
  • Develops and coordinates quality improvement activities for the school health services component of the school health program
  • Document school health services and activities appropriately
  • Collects and analyzes data for required reports on school health services
  • Provision of case management to students with complex health needs
  • Collaborates with other student services personnel to prevent health problems from becoming reasons for barriers to academic achievement
  • Supports the development and on-going functioning of the School Health Advisory Committee
  • Assists in the preparation of related materials for the department
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Student Services or Supervisor of Special Education/Accountability

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Working Conditions: This job operates in a clinic setting with access to medical equipment. This role routinely uses a variety of medical devices and instruments to assess the medical needs of children. This job also follows student medical Health plans and monitors the implementation. Consistent and prompt attendance is imperative for this role.

Reports to: Principal and School Nurse Supervisor

Salary: Salary determined based on education/experience per the ACS Teacher Salary Schedule- Current salary schedule 26-27 Nurse Salary Schedule

The School Nurse maintains a forty-hour (40) workweek and any additional hours as required to meet the duties and responsibilities of this position. This is a 190-day contract position with the salary established by the Board. Performance of this job will be evaluated annually according to provisions of the Human Resources Department.
