Job DescriptionPosition Title: Alternative Learning Program (ALP) Teacher (Grades 912)Location: East Providence High SchoolReports To: Building AdministrationPosition Type: Full-Time School Year PositionPosition OverviewEast Providence High School is seeking a dedicated student-centered and innovative educator to join our Alternative Learning Program (ALP). The ALP is a specialized non-traditional educational setting designed to support students who have not found success in a conventional classroom environment. This program provides a flexible personalized pathway to graduation by prioritizing relationship-building individualized instruction and real-world learning ALP focuses on meeting students where they are academically socially and emotionally while helping them build the skills confidence and resilience needed for long-term success. Through a combination of tailored instruction project-based learning and work-based opportunities the program fosters academic achievement personal growth and post-secondary ResponsibilitiesInstructional Design and DeliveryDesign and implement individualized and competency-based learning plans aligned to student needs interests and graduation instruction using flexible and innovative approaches including project-based learning blended/online learning and differentiated engaging relevant learning experiences that connect academic content to real-world technology and hands-on learning to increase access engagement and skill Support and DevelopmentServe as an advisor and mentor building strong trusting relationships with students to support engagement and students in setting goals monitoring progress and developing self-advocacy and executive functioning assess student progress using multiple data points and adjust instruction and supports and support work-based learning internships or community-based experiences that promote career and enforce the ALP point system with fidelityCollaboration and CommunicationCollaborate with ALP lead teacher staff counselors and administrators to develop and implement individualized support participate in team meetings focused on student progress intervention planning and program consistent communication with families/guardians to provide updates celebrate progress and address and Social-Emotional SupportCreate a safe structured and inclusive learning environment that prioritizes belonging and restorative practices and proactive classroom management strategies tailored to the needs of ALP students social-emotional development through relationship-building skill development and collaboration with support to behavioral challenges with a solutions-oriented student-centered and enforce the ALP point system with fidelityQualificationsBachelors degree in Education requiredValid Rhode Island teaching certification (7-12) Special Education Certification preferred; not requiredMinimum of 3 years of teaching experience preferably in an alternative credit recovery or non-traditional educational working with at-risk youth disengaged learners or students with diverse academic and social-emotional needs strongly and AttributesDeep understanding of differentiated instruction competency-based learning and individualized education plans (IEPs/504s).Strong relationship-building skills and a commitment to student-centered creativity and problem-solving mindset in adapting instruction and communication collaboration and organizational to equity inclusion and supporting diverse learners.
