Nemours is seeking anAllergy Technician Full-Timeto join our Nemours Childrens Hospital team in Orlando Florida.

The allergy technician is an important liaison between the patient/family provider and other care team members. The allergy technician will coordinate patient flow review charts and update with most current information ensure the appropriate paperwork accompanies the patient to the room and enter pertinent history in the medical record. The allergy technician acts as a resource and provides cross coverage as needed as well as serves as a coach and mentor to new clinical associates.
Performs job related tasks with advanced knowledge and displays an educated understanding of their medical specialty. Demonstrates the ability to assess situations bring to resolution and serve as a resource to the department. Enters lab orders and imaging orders as directed by provider and per protocol. Prepares allergenic products according to physician orders.
This position is responsible for the following:
- Deliver excellent customer service to the patients/families and other care providers. Focusing on family-centered care.
- Demonstrates proficiency in aseptic technique.
- Correctly identifies measures and mixes ingredients for allergen extracts according to physician orders and protocol.
- Room patients ensuring appropriate documents are with the patient up to and including required diagnostic reports.
- Performing clinical procedures to include but not limited to the following:
- performing aseptic procedures
- taking vital signs
- preparing patients for the providers care
- performing venipunctures and non-intravenous injections
- observing and reporting patients signs and symptoms
- entering lab orders and imaging orders into the EHR
- Administering basic first aid.
- Assisting with patient examination/treatment.
- Clean prepare and stock exam treatment and medication rooms for daily activity.
- Act as backup for medical assistants as needed.
- Perform and collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by provider.
- Administering medication as directed by the provider.
- Act as a liaison between support services and other clinical divisions.
- Obtain authorizations according to the patients insurance policy for any tests therapies DME etc. ordered by the provider.
- Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by employees manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma required.
- Specialized (1year of training beyond high school).
- Minimum of six (6) months of experience required.
- Must pass a written test on aseptic technique and extract preparation; Annually pass a media fill test.
- BLS Certification within three months of employment and continue to maintain current BLS.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Travel to satellite locations may be required.
