Job Summary:

• Seeking a hands-on AI Engineer to support the ongoing operation modernization and enhancement of AI-enabled applications for the Department of Banking and other state agencies.
• The ideal candidate will develop deploy maintain and extend AI-driven solutions using Python modern web frameworks Microsoft Azure and AI-assisted software development workflows.
• This role will collaborate closely with the Connecticut AI Lab a centralized team supporting AI architecture shared infrastructure and engineering enablement across state agencies.
• The candidate will work with confidential and regulated financial/examination data while following secure development practices.
• The position requires strong experience in building production-ready applications powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) and evaluating AI model performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop enhance maintain and extend existing AI-enabled applications and supporting services.
• Design and build applications using Python and modern web frameworks such as FastAPI.
• Develop application logic web APIs data flows screens forms and reports.
• Build and integrate solutions powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) including:
• OpenAI GPT
• Google Gemini
• Anthropic Claude
• Analyze requirements and participate in project planning sessions with customers analysts and technical teams.
• Translate user requirements into scalable technical solutions from intake through production deployment.
• Prepare review debug and optimize source code while maintaining software integrity.
• Deploy configure monitor and support applications in cloud environments.
• Develop and maintain services using Microsoft Azure services including:
• Azure App Service
• Azure Storage
• Azure Key Vault
• Related Azure cloud services
• Utilize Git-based source control and pull-request-based collaboration workflows.
• Work effectively in an AI-assisted software development environment using modern coding assistants for:
• Code generation
• Code review
• Debugging
• Development acceleration
• Evaluate and compare AI models through techniques such as A/B testing and performance analysis.
• Provide technical guidance related to infrastructure usage and application integration.
• Document system processes workflows technical procedures and application designs.
• Participate in technology evaluations and recommend modern solutions.
• Follow secure development practices and ensure proper handling of confidential or regulated data.
• Perform additional technical duties as required.

Required Skills:

• Python Development
• Minimum 3 years of experience developing applications in Python web environments.
• Experience building application logic and RESTful/web APIs.
• AI / LLM Development
• Minimum 2 years of experience building applications powered by Large Language Models (LLMs).
• Hands-on experience with AI models such as:
• OpenAI GPT
• Google Gemini
• Anthropic Claude
• Experience comparing evaluating and selecting AI models using approaches such as A/B testing.
• Cloud & Deployment
• Experience deploying and supporting applications in cloud environments.
• Knowledge of cloud computing principles and application deployment practices.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure services including:
• Azure App Service
• Azure Storage
• Azure Key Vault
• Source Control
• Experience with Git-based source control.
• Experience working with pull-request-based development workflows.
• AI-Assisted Development
• Experience using modern AI coding assistants for software development.
• Ability to validate AI-generated code and deliver reliable production solutions.

• Understanding of security considerations for AI applications and confidential/regulatory data.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working directly with a state government agency on AI development initiatives.
• Experience supporting government financial banking or regulated industry applications.
• Experience collaborating with centralized AI engineering teams or innovation labs.
• Experience with enterprise application modernization initiatives.
• Familiarity with AI governance model selection and responsible AI practices.
