Afterschool Middle School Fall Sports Coach
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madisons public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic recreational arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction MSCR on the Move arts & enrichment classes youth summer camps sports camps & clinics adult & 50 fitness adult sport leagues including pickleball softball and tennis and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports pontoon trips camping orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary middle and high schools Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment homework/academic clubs drama dance skiing soccer basketball volleyball cross country and much more!
Program Description:
MSCR offers Middle School Programming for all Middle Schools in the Madison Metropolitan School District. This includes after-school sports at each MSCR site. Our programs focus on creating a positive and inclusive environment where kids of all skill levels can thrive and build lifelong skills.
Program Dates: 9/1/2026-10/24/26
The fall sports season includes:
Boys Soccer: September 1-October 16
Girls Volleyball: September 1- October 24
Cross Country: September 1-October 9
Job Description & Duties:
The Sports Coach is responsible for teachingsportsmanship cooperation work ethic personal responsibility andcompetitiveness to all student-athletes. The coach will also enforce districtand department behavioral and academic expectations of student-athletes. Thecoach is required to engage in academic monitoring with teachers and otheracademic support staff. Middle School Sports offerings include Boys and GirlsBasketball Boys and Girls Flag Football Boys and Girls Soccer Boys and GirlsVolleyball and Cross Country.
Start Date:9/1/2026
Work Location:East West North South
Hours/week:18.5 hours per week
Work hours:Hours can vary but generally 3:30pm-6:30pm
Payrate:18.00 - 18.00 /hour
Minimum Qualifications:
The Sports Coach must have a highly important quality of patience with middle school students.
Knowledge of the sport
Serve as a positive role model to the players and parents
Teach skills through effectively planned practices at the level appropriate for each member of the team.
Ability to understand students strengths and weaknesses and promote and maintain motivation in those that they work with.
Willingness to attend coaches meetings offered by MSCR
The ability to work well with children of various ages
Willing to learn and follow district rules and guidelines regarding youth sports
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior coaching experience is helpful but not required
Previous youth work experience
Previous experience coaching sports
