POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Admissions Communication Assistant is responsible for assisting the Admissions office in developing implementing and managing a comprehensive and integrated communication plan that focuses on short-term and long-term strategies that will include all written electronic and new media efforts. This position will manage daily website maintenance social media management tele-counseling team supervision and creation of publication content. They will also participate in the recruitment admissions and matriculation of new students to Southern Oregon University. This position must understand and represent SOU academic programs admission requirements residency requirements housing services athletics student activities and other aspects of the University. They must be able to work with little or no supervision while recruiting students and be able to explain SOU policies independent of direct supervisor while traveling. They must interact effectively with prospective students parents high school and community college counselors and the community to ensure all questions and needs are addressed in a timely manner.
Minimum Requirements
- Four years of experience as an editor reviewing and correcting written materials for grammar spelling punctuation and syntax errors and modifying copy to conform to standards of style length and ease of understanding.
- A Bachelors degree in Journalism English or related field may substitute for two years of the required experience.
Preferred Requirements
- Masters Degree in College Student Personnel Higher Education Administration or other relevant field.
- Experience working in admissions outreach and recruitment.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment.
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Oregon Drivers License and clean driving record.
- Supervision experience.
- Experience planning and organizing programs on high school and college campuses.
Essential Functions
Duties - The following examples are typical work activities that are meant to illustrate the general range of work functions and are not meant to be all-inclusive or restrictive:
(40% ) PUBLICATIONS
- Manage content creation and design of prospective and new student communications to include print email and web-based publications.
- Collaborate with a variety of on and off campus colleagues including students faculty alumni staff and other members of the greater SOU community.
(25%) TECHNOLOGY & VENDOR SOLUTIONS
- Work with Assistant Director of Admissions Communications and Admissions Production and Technical Consultant to strategically utilize and support various solutions (CRM SMS AI Chatbot Virtual Event Platforms etc.).
- Collaborate with colleagues and vendors to successfully leverage solutions; participate in discovery and acquisition of new solutions.
(10%) WEBSITE
- Manage the content of Admissions website. Communicate with campus constituents regarding updates to include important dates academic majors campus visits and various campaigns.
(10%) SOCIAL MEDIA

(5%) MAILINGS
- Assist in the coordination of recruitment mailings.
(5%) RECRUITMENT
- Participate in Admissions/campus programs. Events include Preview programs Raider Registration/Orientation campus visits (group and individual) and other recruitment programs.
- Work with Associate Director and Director of Admissions in executing all aspects of recruitment programs.

Physical Demands
- Position requires moving boxes of publications recruiting materials and office supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Movements involved in these tasks include primarily lifting and pushing.
- At times this position spends 6 to 8 hours a day sitting/standing at a desk and entering information into a computer.
- Requires the ability to receive and place telephone calls.
Special Conditions
- Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
- Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
- This position classification has been defined as non-exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- The person holding this position is considered a mandatory reporter under the Oregon Revised Statutes and is required to comply with the requirements set forth by the Oregon Department of Human Services.
- This position requires driving for university business. Final candidates will be contacted by Human Resources to complete the universitys driver clearance process. Candidates who hold drivers licenses issued outside the State of Oregon will be required to provide a certified driving record from their state of residence during the assessment phase.

These Tribes were displaced during rapid Euro-American colonization the Gold Rush and armed conflict between 1851 and 1856. In the 1850s the discovery of gold and settlement brought thousands of Euro-Americans to their lands leading to warfare epidemics starvation and villages being 1853 the first of several treaties were signed confederating these Tribes and others together who would then be referred to as the Rogue River Tribe. These treaties ceded most of their homelands to the United States and in return they were guaranteed a permanent homeland reserved for them. At the end of the Rogue River Wars in 1856 these Tribes and many other Tribes from western Oregon were removed to the Siletz Reservation and the Grand Ronde Reservation. Today the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon () and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians () are living descendants of the Takelma Shasta and Latgawa peoples of this area.
