Adjunct Faculty Respiratory Care Laboratory Assistant

General Statement

The Respiratory Care Program at Quinsigamond Community College is seeking qualified applicants for an Adjunct Respiratory Care Laboratory Assistant position. The laboratory assistant will work collaboratively with Respiratory Care Program faculty to support hands-on laboratory instruction and student skill development throughout the Respiratory Care curriculum.

The successful candidate will assist faculty during scheduled laboratory sessions provide guidance to students as they develop and refine respiratory care skills and help maintain a safe organized and clinically relevant learning environment.

Laboratory Schedule

For consistency and continuity throughout the Respiratory Care curriculum the ideal candidate will be available to assist with all scheduled laboratory courses throughout the academic year and Summer II session. However applicants who are available for individual laboratory courses specific days or individual semesters are encouraged to apply and will be considered.

Fall Semester

Tuesday: 4:00 p.m. - 5:50 p.m.

Thursday: 11:00 a.m. - 1:50 p.m.

Friday: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Spring Semester

Tuesday: 3:00 p.m. - 4:50 p.m.

Friday: 11:00 a.m. - 1:50 p.m.

Summer II

Tuesday: 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

• The Adjunct Respiratory Care Laboratory Assistant will work under the direction of Respiratory Care Program faculty. Responsibilities may include:
• Assisting faculty with instruction and supervision during respiratory care laboratory sessions.
• Supporting students during hands-on practice of respiratory care procedures and clinical skills.
• Demonstrating and reinforcing appropriate respiratory care techniques infection-control practices patient safety principles and professional behaviors.
• Assisting students with the operation and application of respiratory care equipment.
• Supporting laboratory activities involving mechanical ventilation airway management oxygen and aerosol therapy noninvasive ventilation patient assessment pulmonary diagnostics and other respiratory care procedures as appropriate to the course.
• Assisting with simulation and clinical scenario activities.
• Assisting faculty during student skills practice and competency assessments.
• Providing constructive feedback and reinforcement consistent with faculty instruction and program expectations.
• Assisting with laboratory equipment setup breakdown organization and maintenance.
• Collaborating with program faculty to promote continuity between classroom laboratory simulation and clinical instruction.
• Maintaining a safe professional inclusive and supportive learning environment

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree in Respiratory Care with a minimum of five years of experience or equivalent in Respiratory Care completed in a full-service healthcare setting or a Baccalaureate degree with appropriate education courses with a minimum of three years of experience or equivalent in Respiratory Care completed in a full-service healthcare setting.
• Valid and current Massachusetts license in Respiratory Care.
• Possesses and maintains the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree or higher.
• Experience in teaching preferably in a community or technical college setting.
• Possesses advanced respiratory care credentials from the National Board for Respiratory Care such as RPFT ACCS NPS or SDS.
• Demonstrates a commitment to promoting diversity in the curriculum as appropriate.
• Membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).

Position Information

This is an adjunct/part-time position within the Respiratory Care Program at Quinsigamond Community College.

The programs preference is to identify a qualified candidate who can provide laboratory support across the full sequence of scheduled Fall Spring and Summer II laboratory courses. Having one laboratory assistant work consistently with students and faculty throughout the curriculum promotes continuity of instruction and familiarity with program expectations equipment and laboratory procedures.

Availability for the entire schedule is not required for consideration. Qualified applicants who are available to assist with only one or more individual laboratory sessions are encouraged to apply.

Starting rate of pay is $74.60 per hour. Positions are MCCC Unit eligible.
