Position Overview

M State is accepting applications for an Operations Accounting Manager. This position is located on the Moorhead campus.

The position exists to plan direct and manage various aspects of financial management. Areas of responsibility are broad and include auxiliary operations finance and management accounting functions financial reporting audit security reporting collection receivables chart of accounts maintenance/set up and imprest cash management and budget management for all general fund the absence of the Executive Director of Finance and Budget this person would be the primary contact for Business Services related questions.

Customer Service.

On a daily basis live the mission vision and values of M State to ensure a positive experience for all students and stakeholders. Service to M State students and stakeholders is a core component of the position and work responsibilities.

Exercise supervisory authority and fiscal management for auxiliary services.

  • Coordinate and direct the operations of auxiliary services including accounting reporting planning hiring leading assigning supervising and coaching employees to maintain efficient and effective operations so that adequate financial records and fiscal controls are maintained thus reducing audit findings.
  • Manage college bookstore operations to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the operation.
  • Model various auxiliary finance models and coordinate with research analysts to evaluate cost and projections.
  • Develop and maintain pricing and margin structure for profitable campus store and bookstore operations.
  • Analyze and consult with various stakeholders to ensure fiscal integrity and efficient and effective fiscal management.

Enterprise Workforce Development General Fund Accounting and Grant Accounting.

  • Manage the chart of accounts to ensure cost centers and linked to appropriate general ledger and cash accounts.
  • Serve as the college contact and implementer for the transition to new account structure for accounting systems.
  • Compare budget plans to actual performance on a regular basis analyze revenue compliance business operations and provide accounting services for Workforce Development and report results regularly.
  • Analyze and interpret data to achieve consistency in process and procedure on accounting projects.
  • Assist in closing the fiscal year and with auditing procedures.
  • Post donations to accounting system and coordinate with foundation employees.
  • Prepare financial reports for the foundation to track and monitor expenses.
  • Make budgetary adjustments to resale and other revenue generating accounts as necessary.
  • Provide oversight guidance and assistance with grant reporting and accounting. Assist staff faculty and/or administrators with financial questions and training.
  • Develop and update college policies and procedures for Business Services and ensure all operations comply with federal regulations State statues and Minnesota State policies and procedures.

Reporting and Financial Statement Preparation.

  • Manage the chart of accounts to ensure programs are linked to appropriate cost center and cash accounts.
  • Prepare revenue and expense projections to assist in the annual budgeting process. Monitor budgets for the college and departments/divisions.
  • Compile fiscal data and generate reports to deans directors and end users on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare financial reports for MinnState state and federal government and auditors as required.
  • Annually report inventory and make general ledger adjustments.
  • Coordinate with Institutional Research to complete and accurate program efficiency reports annually.
  • Provide support to the Executive Director of Finance and Budget with the year-end college financial statement preparation.
  • Prepare financial statement components as needed and review internal controls and lead sheets for reasonableness and accuracy.

Support for campus and college operations.

  • Recognize the broad and varied professional responsibilities which include but are not limited to support for campus and college operations such as front desk coverage registration events Spartan Welcome Days Commencement and note that this is not an exhaustive list.
  • Support the operation of college and campus Student Services operational areas beyond the bookstore and business services offices.
  • Serve on campus college and community committees as assigned approved and appropriate that seek to enhance the student experience.
  • Assist in the bookstore fulfillment center as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Finance and Budget and Vice President of Administration.

What Were Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional experience in a financial management related position and minimum of 3years of supervisory experience. A masters degree in Accounting Finance or related field substitutes for 18 months of experience; a bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field substitutes for 12 months of experience; an associates degree in Accounting Finance or related field substitutes for 6 months of experience.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to actively listen to and understand customer needs and provide accurate information and appropriate alternatives in a timely thorough courteous respectful and professional manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and practices to sufficiently coordinate department accounting functions.
  • Knowledge of statewide (or comparable) financial systems modules sufficient to access interpret and evaluate data to improve formats and to develop new financial reporting procedures and methods of analysis.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an accounting / business related field and the ability to prioritize responsibilities and staff resources in order to meet deadlines and accomplish goals.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills sufficient to prepare correspondence prepare presentations and represent the college.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in financial management in a higher education environment.
  • 3 years of experience in government accounting
  • Development and implementation of accounting procedures to resolve problems.
  • Able to develop a collaborative and professional relationship with management and college-wide personnel.
  • Possess excellent account management skills human relations skills and sound judgment with decision-making ability.

Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)

  • 40 hours per week Monday-Friday 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m.
  • Please note our summer hours: effective May 20 July 28 2026 summer hours will be Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM 5 PM and Friday 7:30 AM 11:30 AM (excluding the following weeks which will be five 8-hour days due to the holiday
