Job Summary
ABH is looking for an Accounting Intern to join our Frederick MD team this this paid role youll gain hands-on experience working alongside our finance team by supporting day-to-day accounting operations assisting with reporting and applying your classroom knowledge to real organizational tasks and responsibilities.
Location: Frederick MD (In-person)
Hours: Part-Time / 20 hours/week
Compensation: $15/hour

Essential Functions:
- Assist in the preparation and processing of bi-weekly payroll for employees ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Verify and input employee time records leave balances and adjustments into the payroll system.
- Maintain and update employee payroll records including new hires terminations and changes to salary or deductions.
- Ensure all payroll data is accurate and up-to-date.
- Compile compensation spreadsheets for clinical staff ensuring accuracy of data imported from EMR.
- Research state and federal payroll regulations tax requirements and wage-related inquiries as assigned to ensure that ABH practices are in compliance.
- Assist in the preparation of payroll tax filings and reports as needed.
- Generate and distribute payroll reports for internal stakeholders.
- Assist in reconciling payroll accounts and resolving discrepancies.
- Responsible for the coordination efforts between payroll human resources budget and other departments to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data (including preparation/distribution of detailed reports e.g. overtime leave balances head count and retirement contribution reports)
- Provides customer service to employees management and outside vendors/agencies.
- Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and escalate complex issues to the Senior Accounting Manager.
- Assist with general administrative tasks such as filing scanning and data entry.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to ongoing projects and process initiatives.
- Additional duties within the accounting team as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university working toward a degree in Accounting Finance Business Administration or a related field.
- Strong desire to elevate accounting skills and gain hands-on experience in pursuit of a professional accounting career.
- Must have familiarity with general accounting principles (GAAP) and payroll laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite particularly Excel. Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of organization.
- Demonstrated integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial and payroll data.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Previous internship coursework or work experience in accounting or a related field is a plus but not required.
