Position Overview: This role is responsible for supporting accounting operations by maintaining accurate financial records preparing entries and reconciling accounts for H2O America. This role assists with month-end/year end closes and helps prepare robust financial reporting. They support compliance by maintaining documentation for audits and performing reconciliations to ensure accuracy. Success in this role requires strong analytical and organizational skills as well as effective communication skills to deliver operational excellence and compliance. Occasional domestic travel may be for this role. Key Responsibilities: Maintains robust and accurate financial records and prepares routine journal entries. Performs routine reconciliations on subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger; researches and resolves routine discrepancies. Escalates as necessary. Assists with month-end/year-end closes including adjusting entries and basic schedules. Assists in preparation of financial reports and data compilation for senior staff. Supports auditing procedures by maintaining accurate financial documentation and schedules. Assists with accurate cash flow reporting and reconciliation of P card expenses. Assists with fixed asset accounting practices (e.g. capitalization depreciation schedules reconciliations). Supports routine compliance tasks and ensures adherence to related policies and procedures. Required to complete occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines or address emergencies as needed. Adheres to all necessary internal controls including SOX controls and provides necessary documentation to support compliance. Performs other duties or special projects as or assigned. Team Overview: Employees will be assigned to one or more of the following teams with this assigned function: The General Ledger Accounting team records reconciles and closes out accounts to prepare accurate financial statement and balance sheets for the to ensure integrity and compliance within the H2O America enterprise. They also manage full-cycle month-end and year-end closing processes (incl. Journal entries account reconciliations interdepartmental coordination) while ensuring compliance with various internal and regulatory standards. The Fixed Asset Accounting team specializes in managing the lifecycle of H2O Americas tangible assets which include major infrastructure such as horizontal assets (pipelines and distribution networks) and vertical assets (pumps storage tanks etc.). They ensure accurate tracking valuation and compliance with internal and regulatory standards. This team oversees asset capitalization depreciation disposals and reporting to maintain financial integrity and support strategic decision making. The Gross Margin & Regulatory Accounting team specializes in analyzing and reporting on revenue cost-of-goods and gross profit to ensure accurate financial performance measurement as well as oversight of the accounting for regulatory assets and liabilities. This team monitors margins identifies variances and provides insights to support pricing strategies and operational decision-making. They work closely with regulatory teams to ensure all national and local financial reporting standards are met.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree . 2 years of relevant professional experience preferred. Holds relevant certifications for the teams need or directed by management. CPA certification is a plus. Proficiency in GAAP and bookkeeping fundamentals. Experience with general ledger journal entries and account reconciliations. Understanding of fixed asset accounting basics. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel). Familiarity with ERP/accounting systems (e.g. Oracle). Excellent research and analytical skills. Strong communication and organization skills.
