Academic Tutor (Title I funded)

Position Summary

The Academic Tutor provides targeted academic support to students in individual and small-group settings to improve student achievement and reinforce classroom instruction. The tutor collaborates with teachers and school staff to identify student learning needs supports academic skill development and helps students build confidence and independent learning habits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and small-group tutoring in core academic subjects such as reading mathematics writing science and/or social studies.
• Reinforce classroom instruction and support student mastery of academic standards and learning objectives.
• Assist students with assignments study skills test preparation and organizational strategies.
• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student performance.
• Collaborate with teachers counselors administrators and parents regarding student progress and instructional needs.
• Create a positive supportive and engaging learning environment.
• Use instructional materials educational technology and intervention strategies appropriate to student needs.
• Encourage student motivation accountability and self-confidence.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
• Adhere to all district policies procedures and professional standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with school-age children or adolescents.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of academic subject matter and instructional strategies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff and students.

Preferred

• Associate or bachelors degree in education or related field.
• Previous tutoring teaching or mentoring experience.
• Experience working with diverse learners and intervention programs.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of instructional practices and student learning strategies.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with students and staff.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to adapt instruction to meet varied learning needs.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications and educational technology.

Working Conditions

• School-based environment.
• May work with individual students or small groups in classrooms or intervention settings.
• Regular standing walking speaking and use of instructional materials and technology.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry instructional materials up to 15 pounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person and electronically.
