Job Summary

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews Marian University is seeking qualified applicants for an Academic Success Coach for the health professions academic programs. The Academic Success Coach will promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by using coaching techniques to empower students in identifying goals overcoming challenges and developing strategies that promote academic success. The Success Coach provides a variety of academic support initiatives such as transition and development programs; early intervention strategies; and tutoring and mentoring addition the Academic Success Coach will work one-on-one with students to build individualized learning plans daily schedules and study strategies. The Success Coach will serve the needs of the graduate and doctoral programs in the Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine Leighton School of Nursing and College of Community and Health Sciences. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Academic Support Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education unity in diversity leadership through service integrating faith and life and institutional policies.
  • Facilitate individualâand group academicâcoaching sessions thatâsupport learning strengthenâcognitive and metacognitiveâskills and fosterâacademic development forâgraduate and medicalâprofessional students.â
  • Assistâin the planning andâfacilitationâofânew and continuing student orientationâprograms.â
  • Provideâappropriate referralsâtoâuniversityâdepartmentsâ includingâbut not limited toâmental and physical health and accommodation services.â
  • Assistâwith outreachâand support initiativesâfor students whoâmayâbenefitâfromâadditionalâpreparationâand resources forâmedical licensing exams.â
  • Collaborate regularlyâwith faculty acrossâall academic programsâtoâidentifyâopportunitiesâfor academic supportâand develop learningâexperiences that fosterâstudent growth engagement and success.â
  • Provide individualizedâacademic coaching forâstudents in areasâincluding learning andâstudy strategies test-takingâapproaches licensingâexam preparationâlong-termâknowledge retention timeâand energy management and other skillsâthat support academicâsuccess.â
  • Maintainâaccurateârecords of individuals and groupsâutilizingâAcademic Support Services.â
  • Develop andâfacilitateâworkshops that foster connection and communityâamong students enhanceâknowledge of effectiveâlearning and studyâstrategies and strengthenâthe academic andâprofessional skills thatâsupport student success.â
  • Other duties as assigned.â

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree required in psychology counseling education or related field.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Marian University.
  • Previous experience in a counseling education academic support or tutoring setting within an institution of higher education desired.
  • Previous experience working with graduate and professional students desired.
  • Excellent verbal written collaborative and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple projects concurrently and work under minimal supervision
  • Understanding of Student Affairs/Student Development and effective practices in learning strategy.
  • Adheres to Marian Universitys policies and procedures
  • Shows courtesy and respect in interactions with fellow employees students subordinates and supervisors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and/or experience in higher education or medical education setting.
