Elementary Music

POSITION TITLE: .2 Elementary Music (Fridays at 1 school)

REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Department Head

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: beginning September 2026 through end of school year

Primary Functions: Introduce students to foundational music concepts and foster a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Guide students in understanding and experiencing the fundamental elements of rhythm melody harmony style and cultural connections by engaging them in active listening singing movement performing on classroom instruments appropriate to each grade level creating and improvising through our unified and aligned music curriculum. Prepare students for periodic performances.

Qualifications

• Education & Licensing: Music degree from an accredited institution and an appropriate Massachusetts Teaching License.
• Skills: Functional vocal and keyboard and/or guitar skills for elementary accompaniment.
• Preferences: Elementary school music teaching experience knowledge of audiation-based techniques.

Major Responsibilities

• Deliver general music instruction and evaluate student progress in a safe classroom environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues to align an audiation-based curriculum with state and district frameworks.
• Act as a school music resource attend required department/faculty meetings and build strong relationships with staff students and parents.

Other Responsibilities

• Select and inventory music equipment instructional materials in partnership with other site music staff.
• Participate in professional development (workshops coursework seminars).
• Perform other administrative or instructional duties assigned by the principal.
