Job Summary

St. Martha School in Okemos is seeking a full-time 1st Grade Teacher.

General Summary:

We are seeking a compassionatecollaborative and student-centered elementary teacher who is committed to fostering academic excellencewhile nurturing the spiritual social emotional and intellectual growth of every child.

The elementary teacher will create a safe engaging and faith-filled classroom where students are encouragedto grow in knowledge virtue and confidence. Through high-quality instruction meaningful relationships andcollaboration with colleagues and families the teacher will inspire a love of learning while supporting eachstudents unique needs and helping cultivate a school culture rooted in faith kindness service and belonging.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Model Catholic values and actively support the mission and philosophy of St. Martha School.
Integrate faith into daily instruction classroom interactions and school activities.
Plan and deliver engaging standards-based instruction that meets the diverse needs of learners.
Create a safe welcoming and inclusive classroom where every student feels valued respected and encouraged to grow.
Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate interventions and enrichment to support student success.
Assess student learning regularly and use data to inform instructional decisions.
Maintain accurate records of student progress attendance and grades.
Establish clear classroom expectations and foster positive student behavior through consistent respectful classroom management practices.
Collaborate with colleagues support staff and administration to meet the academic social emotional and spiritual needs of students.
Communicate regularly and professionally with parents regarding student progress classroom activities and school events.
Participate in faculty meetings professional development and school improvement initiatives.
Supervise students during assigned duties including arrival dismissal recess lunch and other school activities as requested.
Prepare students for and participate in school liturgies prayer services and other faith-based celebrations.
Encourage students to develop virtues demonstrate respect for others and serve their school parish and community.
Utilize instructional technology to enhance teaching learning and communication.
Maintain a clean organized and engaging classroom environment that supports learning.
Support school events extracurricular activities and community-building opportunities as appropriate.
Maintain confidentiality regarding students families and school matters.
Comply with all diocesan state and school policies procedures and professional expectations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education:

Bachelors degree or higher in Education
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate issued by the Michigan Department of Education
Eagerness to continuously enrich teaching expertise through engagement in professional development opportunities

Experience:

Previous experience teaching in a Catholic elementary classroom is preferred.
Practicing Catholic or willingness to actively support and uphold the mission teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.

Required:

Commitment to supporting the mission values and philosophy of Catholic education while fostering the faith development of students.
Demonstrated ability to create a positive engaging and inclusive classroom environment with strong instructional classroom management communication and collaboration skills.
Must pass a criminal background check and complete the Protecting Gods Children VIRTUS program.

Physical Demands:

The Elementary Teacher must be able to perform the physical activities necessary to support a safe and effective learning environment including standing and walking for extended periods sitting bending kneeling reaching and lifting up to 25 pounds.
The position requires supervising students in classrooms and outdoor settings operating standard classroom technology and equipment communicating effectively with students and adults and responding promptly to student needs and emergency situations in a fast-paced school environment.
