Position Title:Assistant/Apprentice Teacher Substitute
Location:Great Hearts Northern Oaks (17223 Jones Maltsberger Rd.

Reports To:Headmaster
FLSA Status:Non-Exempt Hourly
This long-term substitute role is a temporary assignment from August through October with a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week.

Teaching Assistant and Apprentice Teacher rolesat Great Hearts:
As a K-5 Teaching Assistant you support the lead teacher in the implementation of a rich Core Knowledge curriculum. A bachelors degree is notrequiredfor this role.
As an Apprentice Teacher you function as a second teacher in the classroom without shouldering the burden of all planning grading/evaluation parent communications
Through mentorship with a Master Teacher you learn the craft of teaching in a classical liberal arts primary-school environment.
Many of our ATs become lead teachers at either lower or upper schools (assuming a bachelors degree)

Collaborate with teachers to supportinstruction student learning and dailyclassroom activities.
Uphold school policies and promote anorderly professional learning environment.
Participate in faculty meetings schoolevents conferences and assigned duties.
Pursue ongoing professional growth and adeepening knowledge of the classicaltradition.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Work with frequent interruptions maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours. Frequent standing stooping bending kneeling pushing and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.
Required/Preferred Education:
Associates or bachelors degree preferred but not required
Some locations (e.g. Title I schools) may require assistant teachers to have an AA 60 hours of college credit or be able to pass aParaProproficiency exam before beginning work.
US work authorization isrequired
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
