The RN Operating Room Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical and operational functions of the Operating Room (OR). This independent contractor role ensures efficient surgical services regulatory compliance patient safety staffing coordination physician relations and adherence to accreditation standards. The OR Manager works collaboratively with surgeons anesthesia providers nursing staff sterile processing and executive leadership to optimize surgical operations and patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Operational Oversight

  • Manage daily operations of the Operating Room and perioperative services.
  • Coordinate surgical schedules to maximize efficiency and minimize delays.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal state OSHA CMS Joint Commission and infection control standards.
  • Monitor patient safety initiatives and quality improvement activities.
  • Develop and enforce OR policies procedures and clinical protocols.
  • Conduct chart audits incident reviews and corrective action planning.

Staff Leadership & Coordination

  • Coordinate and supervise OR nursing and surgical support staff.
  • Assist with staffing schedules and coverage planning.
  • Provide orientation training and mentorship to clinical personnel.
  • Promote teamwork and professional communication among surgical teams.
  • Participate in recruitment and evaluation of OR personnel as requested.

Financial & Performance Management

  • Monitor supply utilization and assist with inventory management.
  • Collaborate with administration on budgeting and cost containment initiatives.
  • Analyze OR efficiency metrics turnover times and case volume trends.
  • Recommend operational improvements to increase productivity and patient satisfaction.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Maintain readiness for accreditation and regulatory inspections.
  • Ensure proper documentation credentialing and competency validation.
  • Oversee infection prevention and quality assurance activities.
  • Participate in risk management and patient safety programs.

Qualifications

  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable placement state.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Operating Room nursing experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership or management experience in perioperative services.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures sterile technique and perioperative standards.
  • Experience with accreditation surveys and regulatory compliance.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • CNOR certification strongly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as a 1099 contractor.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Experience managing multi-specialty surgical services.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and supply chain management.

Work Schedule

  • Flexible contract schedule based on facility needs.
  • May require early mornings occasional evenings or on-call availability.

Pay Range

  • $156000 - $188000 annual equivalent (based on full-time contracted hours)

Classification

This position is classified as an Independent Contractor (1099) and is not eligible for employee benefits. Contractor is responsible for maintaining licensure certifications professional liability insurance and tax obligations.
