Baringa are world leaders in modelling energy markets and using the insights generated through these models to drive change in a decarbonising energy industry. The Energy Products practicespecialisesinthe development and innovationof our analytical models and supporting technology ecosystemunderpinned by our deepexpertisein the energy markets.
Our staff come from diverse backgrounds based across multiple geographies and building models that utilise highly varied data sources everything from kilobytes of academic papers to terabytes of hourly scenarioprojectionsfor 50 years. They need rapid access to data analytics outputs and highlyscalable data processing infrastructure. What you will be doing
We are looking for a Senior Platform Software Engineerto join as a core member of the Data and Processing Platform team taking on a key role alongside the Engineering Lead to build the foundationsand shared capabilities that supportBaringascontinued growth and evolution.
- You willhelp shapethe design implementation and ongoing support of a greenfield Data and Processing Platformand its supporting software products
- You will support the Engineering Lead to engage with internal developers energy system modellers client-facing energy experts and users across the business to buildcapabilities thatenable them to work more effectively and better serve our clients.
- You willhelp driveengineering best practices ensuring that qualityreliabilityandobservabilityarebuilt into our products frominception.
- You will design andimplementrobust CI/CD automationflows continuallyevolvingour processes to improve the engineering experience for ourselves and the teams we support.
- You will take an activeroleinall stages ofthe teams agiledevelopment approachfrom refinement through to deliverysupporting the iterative improvement of ourteamprocesses.
Your skills and experience
- You are passionate about building the right solution to problemswith a desire to understand the problems at their core and whya solution is fit for purpose.
- You will have practical experience as a senior engineer inhigh-performingengineering teams collaborating closely with colleagues and taking pride in what you create.
- You arestrong at solving complex problemsandcanflexibly consider different technologies/engineering approachestoachievethis.
- You have advanced working knowledge of a general programming language (e.g. PythonJava C#Typescript etc.) and understand both domain modelling and application programming.
- You have working knowledge of data management technologies (SQL NoSQL Databricks etc.)
- You have working knowledge of modernsoftwareengineering tools (Git CI/CD pipelines) cloud technologies () and Infrastructure as Code (e.g. TerraformPulumi)
- You have worked across the technology stack with experience of established frameworks (e.g. React/Angular/Vue/Blazor frontends and/orFastAPI/SpringBoot/.NETbackends)
- You have experience building and supporting different architecturalapproaches andare confident in justifyingyour technology and architectural choices.
- You are passionate about communicating complex concepts succinctly to both technical and non-technical audiences to reacha common understanding.
- You have experience working with agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum/Kanban) withan understanding of the key principles that underpintheireffective use.
