Job Summary
THE STAFF ROYAL MARINES OFFICER MARINE SOCIETY AND SEA CADETS ROYAL NAVY SECONDEE
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The SRMO manages all Royal Marines Cadet operations and is key to the delivery of MSSCs objectives under its Vision and Strategy. It ensures that RMC activities are appropriate to a youth organisation are conducted safely and where appropriate in accordance with the ethos customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. The role supports the Operations Directorate and RMC Company Commanders through the management of day-to-day activities and guidance of team members while also ensuring the proper use and accounting of all addition SRMO supports assures and inspects area and unit weapons holdings in accordance with SCRs and operational direction and guidance.
SECONDARY PURPOSES
The secondary purposes of the role are:
- To act as a focal point and subject matter expert regarding weapons training and to ensure that a Safe System of Training is in place for such activity.
- Advise and oversee on the assurance security and transportation procedures relating to Arms and Ammunition in association to JSP 440 and respective Sea Cadet Regulations.
- Promote to all staff and Volunteers the MSSC Vision and Strategy and understanding of the Area objectives and how they fit within the wider objectives of the organisation and work together to achieve it.
- To promote consistently the MSSC and the SCC as well as the ethos and the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy acting as a role model for cadets and volunteers.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The SRMO is fully accountable to Captain Sea Cadets / Director of Operations.
TASKS
The SRMO is to:
- Ensure that Royal Marines Cadets conduct bearing and manner is in keeping with the ethos traditions and standards of the Royal Marines Corps family.
- Act as a liaison between the MSSC and the wider Naval service including wider cadet organisations and other branches of the Armed Forces.
- Deputise for Captain Sea Cadets in the operational management of the Royal Marines Cadets Companies and detachments within the Sea Cadets Corps.
- Provide assurance by means of inspection to the MOD and Naval Service that the Sea Cadets are compliant with accounting and maintenance of MOD Cadet Weapon Systems.
- Advise the MSSC Captain Sea Cadets and Area Officers on RM related matters.
- Conduct ongoing assessments on each RMC Coy within the Sea Cadets to ensure that safety efficiency and standards are being maintained.
- Support RMC Senior Volunteers and Captain Sea Cadets in the selection of capable and motivated volunteers for RMC roles.
- To recommend to Captain Sea Cadets the efficiency award for each RMC Detachment.
- Represent MSSC and the SCC at national and area competitions and events as the diary and budget allows.
- Act as the focal point for Royal Marines Cadets communications and media issues.
- Recommend MSSC and Sea Cadets staff for National Honours and Awards when appropriate and make recommendations to CSC for Awards and National Trophies in accordance with SCRs.
- Act as the focal point for RMC events and activities held within RM training estate e.g. Gibraltar Cup.
AUTHORITY
The SRMO is authorised to:
- Develop new opportunities and maintain appropriate links between Area/s regional bodies and potential supporters and funders.
- Engage with RMA Branches to generate support and maximise opportunities and benefits for the Sea Cadets.
- Engage with RFCA and other youth organisations; liaise and maintain good relationships with MoD estate (DIO).
- Act as authorising officer for SCC WOME movements.
- Maintain liaison with the Royal Marines Cadets(s) and to promote the Area Cadet forum.
- Engage with members of NSC and Area team/s including senior volunteer roles; e.g. SSO RMC and Company Commander.
- Engage with external organisations and stakeholders including MoD and statutory youth and youth support services.
ORGANISATION
The 1RO is Deputy Director Operations and 2RO is Captain Sea Cadets.
COMMITTEES
The post holder attends and provides input to:
- MSSC Operations Quarterly Meeting.
SCC WOME Working Group. - RMC Cadet Council.
WORKING LOCATION AND HOURS
The post holder will work closely with the NSC management Team and will be based at the relevant MSSC Area Office.
This role requires regular evening and weekend work visiting Sea Cadet units and engaging with both cadets and volunteers.
Appointment to this role is on FTRS(FC) TCoS in accordance with BR64.
