Research and Development Director

Microhaem the first 4th-generation IVD manufacturing plant in Africa is looking for an experienced Research and Development Director to lead the development and lifecycle management of our medical devices. This is a leadership role for a strong systems thinker who combines deep technical expertise across software and hardware boundaries with proven experience driving product development in a fast-moving stringently regulated startup environment serving as our device subject matter expert across new product development systems integration design controls risk management and verification & validation.

• Lead and oversee research and development projects to ensure alignment with the companys mission of enhancing patient lives through innovative technology.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify critical needs in medical diagnostics and develop strategies for addressing these gaps.
• Ensure all R&D activities comply with industry standards and regulations while maintaining a focus on quality and accountability.
• Foster a culture of boldness and challenge within the team encouraging creative solutions and continuous improvement.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to report on progress challenges and future opportunities in line with the companys values and objectives.

• A Ph.D. or Masters degree in Medical Sciences Biotechnology or a related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in research and development within the medical or diagnostic laboratory industry.
• Proven track record of successfully leading and managing R&D teams with strong project management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
