In Roches PTD Biologics Pharmaceutical Development (PTDP) we are responsible for the technical development and preparation of sterile dosage forms of biotechnologically and chemically engineered molecules including gene therapies.
We are now offering a unique opportunity to join our team in Basel and contribute to the formulation development of novel gene therapies by supporting protocol and sample preparation for laboratory activities performing advanced analytics to assess the quality attributes of the prepared formulations and a particular focus on setting up and executing a cell-based functional assay.

As an intern in our team your responsibilities will include:
Working safely and responsibly in a BSL-2 laboratory environment handling mammalian cells and recombinant adeno-associated viral vectors (rAAVs)
Carrying out day-to-day cell culture activities
Establishing a cell-based assay to assess the stability of rAAV formulations
Learning and performing relevant analytics such as dd/qPCR flow cytometry HPLC DLS etc and the associated preparatory procedures such as RNA isolation
Planning your studies in line with the concurrent needs and timelines and preparing your protocols
Performing experiments recording analysing and presenting your data to the local and broader teams
Opportunity to engage in departmental activities related to innovative formulations processes and technologies
You must either be currently enrolled at a university in pharmaceutical sciences chemistry biotechnology chemical engineering mechanical engineering biology or a related field pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree; or have completed your studies (passed the 2nd state examination of your pharmacy studies) within the past 12 months prior to the starting date with a Bachelors or Masters degree.
Cell culture experience and experience of working in the lab without direct supervision (e.g. on a research project) is necessary
Previous experience with molecular and/or biophysical analytical methods used in gene therapy formulation development is desirable
Demonstrate efficient time management planning and appropriate record-keeping with previous experience using electronic lab books being desirable.
Understand data analysis and experience analyzing data using MS Excel Google Sheets GraphPad Prism R JMP or other analysis software would be an advantage.
Bring curiosity adaptability willingness to learn and support the team collaborative spirit openness to different working styles.
Work independently on small projects in the laboratory and/or support challenging aspects of ongoing projects.
Build technical documentation present results in internal meetings learn how current industrial requirements are implemented in everyday life and gain insights into the multifaceted and diverse working environment of pharmaceutical development.
