Job Summary

You will join the LHCb Technical Coordination section of the LHCb group. You will be part of the LHCb design office contributing to the CAD modelling of the LHCb detector and helping to develop LHCb digital mock-up and digital twin methodologies that will support installation planning maintenance and operation for the next milestones of the experiment.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute to the conceptual design and development of mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate with physicists engineers and technicians to translate conceptual requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Produce engineering documentation technical specifications 3D models and manufacturing drawings.
  • Support the manufacturing assembly testing and installation of equipment.

Your profile

  • Initial experience in designing mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software.
  • Knowledge of CATIA V5 PDM/PLM environments or structured engineering data management; familiarity with these tools is considered an advantage.
  • Exposure to the machining of parts assembly and testing of mechanical systems is considered an advantage.
  • Familiarity with 3D scanning reverse engineering or digital twin concepts is considered an advantage.

Skills

Mandatory:

  • Ability to work effectively in an international multidisciplinary team with physicists engineers and technicians.
  • 3D CAD modelling and 2D drafting skills preferably using CATIA V5 (or an equivalent CAD system with a willingness to learn CATIA).
  • Good knowledge of mechanical drawing standards dimensioning and tolerancing (ISO GPS) materials and manufacturing processes.

Optional:

  • Basic programming skills ideally in JavaScript and/or Python.
  • Interest in or experience with 3D web visualisation technologies (e.g. WebGL and the glTF format).

Language skills:

  • Spoken and written English or French with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelors or Masters degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Additional Information :

Job closing date: 19.10.2026 at 23:59 CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Fully Onsite

Target start date: 01-January-2027

This position involves:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • Radiation worker category A.
  • Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain conditions.

Given the occupational health risks associated with this position the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
