The Analytical Development Biochemistry group located in Basel is an integral component of how we innovate healthcare through the invention of differentiated medicines for treating diseases of current unmet medical need. This internship program integrates seamlessly into European-based University degree program and therefore we offer the most talented students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with us.
As an Analytical Development Intern in Analytical Sciences with a focus on LC-MS you will actively contribute to analytical project work from the very beginning. You will support the characterization quantification and stability assessment of drug products and related samples using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based analytical methods.
Your responsibilities and learning opportunities include:
Plan and perform analytical studies (e.g. peptide mapping) to support the development and characterization of pharmaceutical drug products with a particular focus on LC-MS-based methods.
Support the development optimization and application of liquid chromatographymass spectrometry methods for the analysis of drug products.
Carry out physico-chemical analyses of development and non-manufacturing-grade samples using modern analytical techniques including LC-MS HPLC/UPLC and complementary chromatographic methods.
Assist in sample preparation (e.g. enzymatic digests) and the optimization/troubleshooting of LC-MS instruments and data processing workflows.
Ensure the integrity of data and take full ownership of comprehensive documentation for all analytical studies in compliance with internal quality standards (ALCOA principles).
Collaborate with experienced scientists and cross-functional project teams to support analytical strategies for the development of parenteral drug products.
Apply analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to improve experimental workflows optimize methods and support efficient laboratory processes.
Gain hands-on experience in a modern analytical laboratory environment and develop a deeper understanding of mass spectrometry-based analytics in pharmaceutical development.

You are currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Analytical Biology Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related fieldor have graduated with a Masters degree in one of these disciplines within the past 12 months prior to the start date. Project is not suitable for Bachelor / Master thesis.
You are motivated to increase and share your theoretical and practical knowledge on this emerging and exciting field of liquid chromatographymass spectrometry (LC-MS) / electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and you are an enthusiast of new technologies and you easily show engagement with people. Experiences in sample preparation of biomolecules and in mass spectrometry in general are considered a plus.
You are an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a strong interest in pharmaceutical analytics and modern instrumental analysis.
Interest in Analytical Sciences: You have a strong interest in pharmaceutical analysis especially in chromatographic and mass spectrometry-based methods such as LC-MS or LC-MS/MS
Analytical Competence: You have a solid understanding of liquid chromatography (HPLC/UPLC) and mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Hands on experiences with LC systems sample preparation or Data Systems (e.g. Waters Thermo Bruker) is a strong asset.
Scientific Mindset: You enjoy working accurately and systematically documenting your work carefully and interpreting analytical data in a structured way.
Personal Strengths: You are self-reliant curious solution-oriented and motivated to work in a collaborative and international team environment
Communication Skills: You communicate clearly enjoy teamwork and are open to learning from experienced scientists.
Language Skills: You are fluent in written and spoken German. English language skills are an advantage.
Knowledge about Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is a plus

Planned Start Date: Flexible effective immediately or beginning of 2027.
Duration: At least 6 months.
Non-EU/EFTA Applicants: Due to regulatory requirements non-EU/EFTA citizens must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship and must include an official certificate from their university confirming that the internship is a mandatory requirement of their study program.
