The Staff Mechanical Design Engineer is a senior technical authority responsible for driving the development of the next generation of Biacore instruments while ensuring that existing instrument platforms evolve to remain robust manufacturable and competitive throughout their lifecycle. The role has broad technical influence across multiple projects products and time horizons.

You will work within the Biacore R&D Hardware section consisting of Mechanical Design Engineers Electrical Design Engineers Research Engineers Optics Engineers and Project close collaboration with crossfunctional stakeholders you will shape mechanical architectures guide systemlevel design decisions and ensure alignment with longterm technical strategy.

The role is focused on technical leadership rather than people management and involves solving the most complex mechanical and systemlevel challenges. As a Staff or Principal engineer you are expected to define best practices mentor senior engineers and act as a trusted technical advisor across the organization

This position reports to the Biacore HW Section Manager and is part of the Biacore R&D Hardware Section located in Uppsala and will be an on-site role.

What you will do:

• Own and drive the mechanical design of highly complex systems subsystems or platforms
• Serve as a technical lead for major development initiatives or critical subsystems
• Translate systemlevel requirements into robust mechanical architectures and design strategies
• Resolve the most complex technical challenges including multidisciplinary design tradeoffs
• Define and uphold engineering best practices (DFMEA tolerance strategy DFM/DFA robustness)
• Act as a technical mentor and reviewer for senior and midlevel engineers
• Lead or significantly influence design reviews technical risk assessments and rootcause investigations

Who you are:

• University degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Extensive experience delivering complex mechanical designs across full product lifecycles
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead technically challenging work with broad impact
• Deep competence in mechanical architecture detailed design and manufacturing methods
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD technical documentation and design verification methodologies
• Fluent in Swedish and English both spoken and written
