The Faculty of Health Science and Technology is now accepting applications for a position as Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the Department of Engineering and Chemical Sciences. The department conducts extensive research and offers education within the disciplines of chemistry chemical engineering building and construction engineering and environmental engineering. The department currently has around 60 employees and is responsible for two MSc in Engineering programmes and two BSc in Engineering programmes as well as a bachelors programme in chemistry. We also offer courses within the teacher education programmes and MSc programmes in other disciplines.

We are looking for a colleague to join our team in delivering teaching developing existing and new collaborations with industry partners and contributing to our research environment.

The MSc in Chemical Engineering programme focuses on developing new materials and sustainable manufacturing processes. The department also includes an industrial graduate school EXACT which aims to contribute to a sustainable manufacturing industry as well as future-proofing the Swedish process-manufacturing industry through needs-based research.

The degree programmes have a strong link to the research conducted at Karlstad University and our researchers are involved in:

• Pro2BE ( industrial graduate school EXACT ( 0 House ( main duties consist of teaching courses in the MSc in Chemical Engineering programme and the bachelors programme in chemistry as well as contributing to course development. Teaching includes both lectures and laboratory sessions. You will also conduct research and supervise doctoral students. Duties may also include administrative tasks and assignments within the universitys operations.

  You are expected to collaborate with the wider community for a mutual exchange as well as work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society. An important part of the duties in terms of collaboration includes investigative work for industry partners in chemical engineering analysis linked to Karlstad Universitys testbed environment and in collaboration with staff and companies associated with the Pro2BE research environment.

  Qualification requirements

  To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in chemical engineering applicants are required to have demonstrated teaching expertise. Applicants are also required to hold a PhD or equivalent academic qualifications in chemical engineering or equivalent professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.

  Proficiency in spoken and written Swedish is a requirement as it is the language of instruction in most courses. Proficiency in spoken and written English is also a requirement.

  Pursuant to Karlstad Universitys Appointments Procedure teachers must have completed higher education pedagogy training. Candidates who have not completed courses in higher education pedagogy may still be hired provided that they use the time allotted to continual professional development to complete the required courses within two years of employment or apply for validation of prior learning.

  Additional qualification requirements in accordance with the appointments procedure:

  • High quality and relevance in research production
  • Ability to collaborate with the wider community and disseminate information about activities and results
  • Ability to initiate and develop research or activities within the relevant subject area
  • Demonstrated ability to plan conduct develop and evaluate teaching examinations and other pedagogical activities at various levels and using varied teaching methods.

  Assessment criteria

  Special weight will be given to

  • Experience in collaborating in teams and with industry in areas relevant to chemical engineering
  • Current experience in collaborating with the wider community as well as communicating research findings and results of development work to industrial partners relevant to the duties included in the position.

  Considerable weight will be given to

  • Documented experience in teaching courses at bachelors and masters level both through lectures and laboratory sessions and/or supervision of students at various levels (bachelors/masters/doctoral level)
  • Documented experience in leading development projects at the research level in collaboration with industry partners
  • Personal qualities such as the ability to show initiative a results-oriented approach responsibility and strong collaboration skills. This also includes showing commitment and a positive attitude towards colleagues and students.

  Weight will be given to

  • Documented third-stream activities relevant to teaching.
  Terms

  This is a permanent full-time position. Start date as agreed by both parties. A probationary period may be required.

  • No more than 10 scientific publications and no more than 5 materials intended to convey knowledge such as textbooks computer programs for teaching or popular science articles
  • Two references at least one of which is a current or former supervisor.
