Job Summary
Ytsab Defence AB is seeking a highly motivated Researcher with a strong background in electromagnetism power electronics and experimental laboratory work. Joining our cutting-edge defence R&D team you will bridge the gap between theoretical physics and advanced engineering.
In this role you will lead the physical modeling simulation and experimental validation of next-generation electromagnetic launch systems. You will be responsible for defining the mathematical frameworks of electromagnetic acceleration optimizing pulsed-power efficiency managing extreme thermal/mechanical stresses and building physical prototypes to validate your models. Key Responsibilities
- Theoretical & Multi-Physics Modeling: Develop fundamental mathematical frameworks combining electromagnetic thermal and material physics to describe transient system behaviors and time-varying magnetic forces.
- Simulation: Implement and utilize multi-physics software to simulate large parameter spaces and refine magnetic field dynamics.
- Control & Electrical Subsystems: Define boundary conditions switching requirements pulse shapes and power regulation dependencies for electrical and control subsystems.
- Prototyping & Testing: Design build and operate experimental laboratory test setups to evaluate acceleration efficiency and discharge dynamics.
- Reporting & Collaboration: Document test results prepare technical reports for EU-funded projects and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists.
Requirements
- Education: Masters degree or PhD in Applied Physics Electrical Engineering Mechatronics or related field.
- Pulsed Power & Electromagnetic Systems: Strong foundation in electromagnetic acceleration physics and transient magnetic forces with expertise in pulsed power architectures high-energy discharge circuits high-current switching high-power electronics or electromagnetic propulsion mechanisms.
- Simulation: Experience with multi-physics simulation software (e.g. COMSOL ANSYS Maxwell and/or Altair Flux).
- Hands-on Testing: Experience setting up laboratory diagnostics high-speed data acquisition systems and working safely with high-voltage hardware.
- Communication & Research: Experience in scientific research and technical report writing with excellent written and verbal English communication skills (Swedish is a plus).
Bonus Qualifications
- Familiarity with managing thermal dissipation and mechanical stress in high-energy electrical systems.
- Experience in leading technical projects and managing multidisciplinary project deliverables.
- Experience in EU research projects or similar collaborative environments with strong skills for working alongside external manufacturing and project partners.
