The position is part of the project Electrolyte Volume Metrology for Sustainable Lithiumion Batteries which develops a novel minimally invasive gassorption technique to quantify electrolyte volume in commercial lithiumion cells based on gas dissolution in the electrolyte.
The project is sponsored by the Novo Nordisk Foundation Pioneer Innovator Grant grounded on an invention disclosure including the method and apparatus to determine electrolyte amount in commercial lithium-ion batteries.
Duties
- Develop the experimental setup to study electrolyte behaviour in commercial lithiumion batteries.
- Refine the test bench and software interface for quantitative determination of electrolyte consumption in commercial cells.
- Map gas solubilities in commercially relevant electrolyte formulations.
- Document hardware measurement procedures and data analysis workflows in SOPs internal reports and scientific manuscripts.
- Contribute to commercialization of the patented technology through engagements with industrial partners for early prototype evaluation.
- Collaborate with the project team and relevant research groups within the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre and present results at group meetings and at national and international conferences.
Requirements
- Masters degree or higher in chemistry materials science physics electrical engineering mechanical engineering or a closely related field; a PhD is meritorious but not strictly required if equivalent experience can be demonstrated.
- Experience with lithiumion batteries and/or electrochemical energy storage such as cell testing aging studies or related diagnostics.
- Practical experience with experimental setup development (hardware sensors software interface) and quantitative data analysis.
- Good skills in relevant IT and programming environments for measurement control and data processing (e.g. Python MATLAB LabVIEW or similar).
- Excellent command of spoken and written English.
Additional qualifications:
- Experience of working with industry partners start-ups or commercialization of research results (IP patents proof-of-concept projects).
