The Department of Microbiology Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology infection biology cell biology and cancer. Our key words are multidisciplinary bridging national and international collaborations.

We are seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to join our innovative team on a project studying Streptococcus pneumoniae virulence and vaccine development. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to vital research that aims to understand this pathogen and its function in infection.

Your mission

Responsibilities for this position include conducting experiments data analysis literature searches and collaborating with a dynamic research team on bacteria and vaccines.

Your profile

Requirements for the position:

  • The successful candidate has made a bachelor thesis preferably on pneumococci and is a student from biomedicine or a similar field with laboratory experience in microbiology especially growth and culturing in BSL-2 level and understands microbiology theory
  • The successful candidate possesses a strong background in infection biology and microbiology and experience with laboratory techniques such as BSL-2 cultures and working in a BSL-2 laboratory ELISA flow cytometry and cell cultures
  • The applicant should have a keen interest in infectious disease research and be methodical and organized and have good record-keeping skills
  • Successful applicants must have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a group
  • Excellent English and Swedish communication skills both orally and written
  • The candidate is open cooperative flexible and can adjust into a multinational research group.

Meritorious for the position:

  • Prior work with Streptococcus pneumoniae is advantageous
  • Previous research experience in working with bacteria and vaccine development
