Subject/subject description

At Stockholm University the subject of Special Education is an interdisciplinary field of knowledge with a bridging function between several scientific areas based on the interaction between the individual context and society. Knowledge within the field focuses on measures taken before difficulties arise as well as on facilitating conditions for individuals with various disabilities and/or individuals in socially vulnerable life situations.

Main responsibilities

Research and teaching on all levels as well as fulfilling administrative duties at the faculty level. The person hired should participate actively in developing leading research in Special Education both nationally and internationally.

The employment is shared between research and teaching according to the current collective agreement.

Qualification requirements

A person who is qualified to be employed as a professor will have demonstrated both research and teaching skills.

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order successfully to meet the demands of the position.

In order to be able to perform the duties of the position the applicant must have a documented ability to use Swedish language in speech and writing at a professional level. This can be demonstrated for example by documented experience of teaching in Swedish language or a certificate of language skills corresponding to at least B2 level (CEFR).

Assessment criteria

Special and equal emphasis will be placed on teaching and research skills.

Research expertise should be demonstrated through independent research in Special Education or adjacent field that significantly exceeds the requirements for qualification as an Associate Professor both in terms of quality and quantity. Significance is also attached to the planning and coordination of research.

Teaching proficiency should normally be demonstrated through teaching at the undergraduate masters and doctoral levels. The assessment of teaching skills should cover the planning implementation and evaluation of teaching as well as supervision and examination. Teaching proficiency should be well documented in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the teaching activities.

Strong emphasis will be placed on a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.

Strong emphasis will also be placed on successful research supervision demonstrated through active guidance of at least one student to a completed PhD degree.

Strong emphasis will be placed on administrative skills and proven collaboration with the surrounding society and dissemination of research and development findings.

Strong emphasis will be placed on having successfully planned applied for and obtained research project funds from external research funding bodies.

The following is a merit:

  • Completion of at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education or to have otherwise acquired the equivalent knowledge.
  • Completed training in research supervision.
About the employment

This position is full-time indefinite-term employment.

An applicant who does not have at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education and is not deemed to have acquired equivalent knowledge must complete such training within the first two years of employment.
