Description of the workplace
The doctoral project will be carried out at the division of Biomedical engineering within IKVL with placement at LTH in the ultrasound research group located there. The group also includes another doctoral student from the division as well as a researcher who will contribute as a co-supervisor.

The research group is now recruiting a full-time doctoral student (100%) with a start date of 1 September 2026 (or as agreed).
Description of PhD Project
The work will include theoretical and experimental modeling of the response of magnetic nanoparticles in a magnetic addition mechanisms for potential therapeutic effects of various nanoparticle shapes will be studied for example through lysosomal rupture. The project will also aim to conduct the first demonstration of antibody-guided imaging and potential therapy using magnetomotive ultrasound. Validation will be carried out partly using phantoms (test objects) and will also include cell studies.

Work description
The PhD student will:
- Conduct research within the project described above. This includes the design planning and execution of studies as well as the development of phantom and cell models and performing measurements on these.
- Participate in the supervision of masters thesis projects.
- Travel and present research findings at scientific conferences and visit collaborating partners.
Additional responsibilities related to the role may be assigned.
Qualifications
Necessary qualifications for the job:
- A background in Engineering Physics Biomedical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Medical Physics or equivalent (at least 240 ECTS credits of which 60 ECTS credits are at an advanced level).
- Experience in theoretical and experimental modeling as well as signal processing preferably with applications in biomedical engineering particularly ultrasound technology.
- Very good ability to communicate in English both spoken and written.
Meritorious are:
- Knowledge of ultrasound physics specifically magnetomotive ultrasound.
- Experience of experimental studies involving antibodies bacteria and/or cells.
- Experience in delivering presentations at scientific conferences.
Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad. The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into addition to devoting themselves to their studies those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks research and administration in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
