We are looking for an experienced and driven individual to join our team as a DMPK Project Leader (Associate Principal/Principal Scientist depending on your level of professional experience). The position is located at AstraZenecas dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg Sweden a world-class facility with state-of-the-art laboratories and shared spaces to accelerate decision making and problem solving while benefiting from the Swedish focus on work-life balance. The working language is English and the site is a multicultural environment with scientists from over 70 countries.

Respiratory & Immunology (R&I) is one of the three main therapeutic research areas within AstraZeneca. R&I has research units in Gaithersburg (US) Cambridge (UK) and Gothenburg (Sweden) and delivers candidate drugs into late-stage clinical development. Working at R&I DMPK means being entrepreneurial following the science scrutinizing data and details combined with holistic thinking and achieving progress through teamwork within DMPK and between functions across sites. DMPK supports projects from target selection to market launch and Life cycle management.

What youll do:
With a true passion for drug discovery and development you will support our R&I portfolio. The DMPK Project Leader role is a strategic and scientific role in which you will work collaboratively with project representatives from other disciplines. These may include biology antibody Discovery/Protein Engineering medicinal chemistry safety clinical pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences where your task is to influence candidate profiling by providing the necessary DMPK input and data to support clinical investigations and regulatory submissions.

It is your responsibility to ensure delivery and interpretation of all DMPK related activities like preclinical PK and distribution experiments in vitro ADME and biotransformation assisting design of pharmacodynamic studies DDI risk assessment PKPD analysis and human dose prediction from candidate selection through life cycle management. You have a solid understanding of DMPK throughout the value chain (discovery and development) a working knowledge of pharmacology and PKPD and can provide expert advice and interpretation of complex drug discovery data in relation to regulatory guidelines.


Main Duties and Responsibilities will include:
Deliver DMPK strategy input and data to projects within agreed timelines and to the right quality
Apply an understanding of DMPK to support/influence compound profiling project progression and project strategy
Define and deliver a translational quantitative PKPD strategy in projects so that effective conclusions can be made
Contribute to estimation of safety margins and report results and interpretations to project teams and internal governance bodies
Responsible for leading coordinating and engaging with R&I DMPK colleagues as well as cross-functionally in project related activities
Prepare clear presentations related to the above for internal governance bodies
Contribute to further DMPK science together with colleagues
Communicate scientific progress both externally and internally

Essential requirements:
PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant scientific field
Deep expertise in DMPK sciences with comprehensive knowledge of the drug discovery and development processes
Broad experience across different modalities including small molecules and biologics (PK & Bioanalysis) and curious about novel modalities
Regulatory submission experience for both biologics and small molecules and familiarity with global regulatory guidelines (e.g. ICH FDA EMA)
High level of knowledge and skill in pharmacokinetics in addition to (at least) basic PK and PKPD modelling skills and mechanistic understanding of drug-drug interaction risk assessments.
Good knowledge of DMPK assays and their implications and proficiency within silico tools for PK prediction
Proven project leadership and mentoring junior scientists
Work independently but with a collaborative mindset and good written and verbal communication skills in English
Proactive team-oriented approach to problem solving
