About St. Bernards High School
St. Bernard’s High School is a co-ed, independent Catholic day school providing its approximately 210 students from grades 9 to 12 an exceptional college-preparatory curriculum. In 2020, after close to a century as a parish and diocesan school, St Bernard’s successfully transitioned to an independent Catholic school, governed by a Board of Trustees. This change brought with it over $2.8 million raised to date, a 90% increase in enrollment in three years, and a revamped set of curriculum offerings, including four new curriculum tracks in Health Science, Business, Liberal Arts, and Engineering. Our mission is to educate students to be life-long learners and leaders in service who embrace the challenges of the world with courage, integrity and faith. Just as Christ calls us to love one another as He has loved us, St. Bernard’s High School educates students to be life-long learners and leaders in service who embrace the challenges of the world with courage, integrity and faith. We do this through our strong community of faculty, staff and families who nurture the individual – mind, body and spirit. St. Bernard students come from 22 local communities in MA and southern NH. Our families are of several faiths; 66% of our families are Catholic, while 34% represent other Christian denominations and diverse faiths. Our student body is diverse with 32% students of color. Nearly 50% of our students qualify for need-based financial aid and scholarships and $400,000 of need-based financial aid is given out each year. 97% of our seniors attend college; 3% join the workforce or enroll in the military. St. Bernard’s is housed in a historical academic building in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Additionally, it consists of a nearby sports complex with a large gym, indoor turf practice field, and several outdoor athletic fields including a lighted football field. Our average class size is 17 students and our student to teacher ratio is 14:1. We offer AP and Honors classes in addition to our core college preparatory curriculum. Our extracurricular offerings are robust and expanding. St. Bernard’s has a legacy of athletics excellence. Sports offered at this time include boys soccer, girls soccer, field hockey, football, girls volleyball, golf, boys basketball, girls basketball, ice hockey, baseball, softball, boys lacrosse, and girls lacrosse. 86% of students participate in one or more sports per year. We also offer a wide range of clubs as well as arts offerings with the most popular including photography and robotics. Central to our history and culture is our Campus Ministry. St. Bernard’s was founded by the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and their legacy continues in the projects and good works undertaken by our students. In addition to developing young people to embrace and thrive intellectually and academically, St. Bernard’s is cultivating adults who believe in giving of themselves, bettering their communities, and caring about others.
