The Technical Leader Wind Simulation provides technical direction vision and expertise in advanced atmospheric and wind-plant modeling. This role guides the development integration and deployment of high-fidelity simulation technologies (CFD LES wake and turbulence modeling wind resource assessment and suitability analysis) that underpin product simulation siting and risk reduction. The Technical Leader drives the technology roadmap ensures alignment with business strategy and provides leadership to internal and external collaborators while fostering the growth of knowledge and understanding of wind across the organization. The role is hands on requiring deep programming modeling and implementation expertise to design validate and build advanced simulation methods and data workflows.

The Wind Simulation Technical Leader will deliver:

Strategic Planning

  • Define and own the technical roadmap for atmospheric and wind-plant simulation ensuring alignment with product and business priorities.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise in fluid dynamics CFD/LES atmospheric boundary-layer physics turbulence wake modeling and wind resource assessment.
  • Lead the evaluation selection and adoption of next-generation simulation methods and tools.
  • Maintain strong awareness of cloud computing data engineering and modern computational frameworks to ensure scalability efficiency and integration with company data systems.
  • Contribute directly to simulation model development implementation and validation to ensure technical excellence and practical impact.

Program & Project Leadership

  • Lead large-scale technology collaborations including external partnerships and supplier engagements.
  • Drive program execution balancing innovation with delivery of validated production-ready solutions.
  • Oversee internal technology programs coordinating activities of multiple engineers and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with software tools and data engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of new simulation capabilities into existing workflows and digital platforms.
  • Remain technically engaged through hands-on coding testing and deployment of simulation pipelines and data workflows.
  • Ensure successful validation verification and integration of new methods into engineering workflows and processes.

People & Team Leadership

  • Mentor and coach engineers interns and early-career talent supporting their professional development and technical growth.
  • Build and develop a strong internal simulation team empowering individuals to take ownership and contribute to shared goals.
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities with design loads controls WRA and product development teams.
  • Foster a culture of innovation technical rigor collaboration and continuous learning expanding organizational expertise and collective understanding of ind and atmospheric physics.
  • Lead by example as a technical practitionercontributing code reviewing implementations and setting standards for quality and reproducibility.

Business Impact & Communication

  • Translate advanced simulation capabilities into customer and business value including reduced uncertainty in AEP and loads predictions improved turbine suitability assessments and enhanced competitiveness.
  • Represent the company in technical exchanges with customers research institutions and suppliers.
  • Publish present and advocate for the companys leadership in atmospheric modeling and wind-plant simulation.

Required Qualifications

Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in fluid dynamics atmospheric sciences mechanical/aerospace engineering or related field.
Major experience in CFD LES atmospheric/wake modeling or related domains including at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
Demonstrated leadership in technical programs roadmaps or cross-functional initiatives.
Proven ability to lead external collaborations and manage supplier deliverables.
Strong track record in integrating advanced methods into production engineering workflows.
Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g. Python C or similar) data analysis and numerical model implementation.
Awareness of cloud-native computing data engineering and scalable workflow architectures (e.g. distributed computing containerized environments or data pipelines).
