Senior Consultant – Power Grid & BESS Energy Systems

MRC Consultants and Transaction Advisers our subsidiary based in Madrid specialises in independent high-quality advice through the full project cycle from early feasibility to execution and post-implementation evaluation with a focus on decarbonisation renewable energy integration energy storage and climate-resilient infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to join our Power Grid & BESS / Energy Systems team in Madrid.

You will help develop and deliver innovative energy projects across Europe and internationally. The focus is on battery energy storage systems (BESS) covering techno-economic analysis power system studies and implementation support as well as the integration of renewable energy into modern power systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct techno-economic analyses for BESS and renewable energy projects including feasibility studies and business model development.
• Support BESS implementation from technical specification and procurement through to commissioning and performance validation.
• Carry out power system planning simulation and expansion studies for developing-country contexts with emphasis on renewable integration and grid stability including experience with tools such as SDDP or similar.
• Prepare technical and economic content for consulting projects and proposals.
• Evaluate grid integration challenges and operational frameworks for BESS within project teams.
• Conduct market assessments and regulatory analysis for energy storage deployment.
• Contribute to capacity-building and training projects for clients.
• Support client engagement and project delivery across European and international markets.

Qualifications :

Technical Skills

• MSc/MEng in Electrical Engineering Power Systems Energy Engineering or related fields.
• 5 to 10 years of professional experience in energy sector consulting utilities or IFIs with work experience within Europe
• Demonstrated expertise in BESS technologies covering both modelling and implementation as well as renewable energy integration and power system analysis.
• Familiarity with wholesale power markets and their operation; experience with European frameworks (ENTSO-E market coupling day-ahead/intraday) 
• Experience with techno-economic modelling and dispatch optimisation.
• Familiarity with power system analysis tools (DIgSILENT PowerFactory PSS/E or similar).
• Familiarity with energy dispatch tools (SDDP Plexos or similar)
• Experience with data analysis and modelling (Python R or equivalent).
• Desirable
  • Strong understanding of European energy markets and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in project development or transaction advisory.
  • Knowledge of grid codes and technical standards for renewable integration

Soft skills

• Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills.
• Fluency in English and Spanish; French is a plus.
• Self-motivated and proactive with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to travel occasionally worldwide.
