Maintenance Engineer Facilities Department 1.0 FTE

Durango School District is accepting applications for a Maintenance Engineer. Position is Full time includes benefits and begins September 1 2026.

This 40 hour position can be four (4) days that are scheduled between Monday - Friday at ten (10) hours each day OR Monday - Friday at eight (8) hours per day.

For the 26/27 SY this position includes an $1800 one-time bonus for staff newly hired to the school district! (pro-rated for late start)

SUMMARY: The Maintenance Engineer is primarily responsible for assisting in the daily and ongoing Maintenance operations of facility infrastructure for the Durango School District. Reporting to the Director of Facilities. This position will represent Facilities Operations and serve Students Colleagues and Guests including handling complaints and responding to any emergency conditions.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING : High school diploma or equivalent. Specialized courses and training in small engine or electrical equipment repair preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

CERTIFICATES LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS: Valid drivers license required as this position must be able to drive district maintenance vehicles. Criminal Background Check required for hire.

TECHNICAL SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

• Ability to perform troubleshooting techniques.
• Skill and ability to use mechanical and electrical tools.
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Ability to communicate interact and work effectively in a team environment. This position must work closely with custodial grounds and kitchen staff.
• Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies Superintendent policies and building/ department procedures.
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace follow safety rules practice safe work habits utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

• Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
• Ability to use the internet to order parts and search for repair manuals online.
• Responsible for appropriate and efficient use of repair parts and tools provided by the District.
• Operating knowledge of and experience with snow removal equipment
