The opportunity

We are seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to join the Engineering team at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Geelong.

In this role you will support the maintenance and operation of the electrical instrumentation and critical facility systems that underpin Australias premier high-containment research facility. You will undertake electrical maintenance statutory instrumentation calibrations and fault finding across a wide range of critical infrastructure including utilities high-voltage systems and containment-critical services.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team you will help ensure the safe and reliable operation of PC2-PC4 laboratory environments. The role involves planned and reactive maintenance commissioning new infrastructure coordinating contractors maintaining technical documentation and participating in annual shutdowns and an on-call roster supporting critical facility systems.

Your high-level duties will include:

  • Performing maintenance repair calibration and installation activities on electrical instrumentation and control systems.
  • Operating and maintaining the sites high-voltage network and related infrastructure.
  • Diagnosing and resolving faults to minimise downtime across critical facility systems.
  • Conducting statutory instrumentation calibrations and maintaining associated records.
  • Supporting the installation commissioning and integration of new electrical and instrumentation infrastructure.
  • Coordinating specialist contractors and ensuring compliance with safety biosecurity and permit requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining technical procedures work instructions and engineering records.
  • Managing maintenance activities and asset records through the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Supporting regulatory compliance and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Working safely within PC2-PC4 environments and maintaining systems essential to microbiological security.
  • Participating in annual maintenance shutdowns and the on-call roster providing emergency response support.

Salary: AU$100k - AU$113k pa 15.4% superannuation

As the successful candidate you will bring:

  • Victorian A Grade Electrical License (or ability to obtain one if from another state) with relevant post trade experience and relevant trade qualifications for an Electrician.
  • Dual trade certificate III or IV in Electrical Instrumentation
  • Demonstrated electrical and instrumentation maintenance experience across industrial process industry building services or manufacturing plant environments in both installation and operational maintenance work.
  • Demonstrated experience independently diagnosing and resolving faults in process control and electrical systems within an industrial environment.
  • Competence to accurately interpret control system and electrical schematics engineering drawings operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated experience to effectively work as part of a team.
  • A demonstrated commitment to OHS&E safe working practices including Lock out - Tag out and permit systems.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Possession of High Voltage Operators qualification and experience working with high-voltage (HV) systems in an industrial or complex facility environment including exposure to HV switching isolation protection systems and safe work practices associated with high energy electrical distribution.
  • Demonstrable understanding of and experience with SCADA or similar plant control systems programmable logic controllers (PLC) and variable speed drives (VSD).
