Durango School District is accepting applications for Part time Cook/Day Custodian27.5 hours a week 5.5 hrs a day. (6875 FTE) for the Durango Big Picture High School. This position will start at 7:30am 1:30pm Monday through Friday. Includes Full health and dental insurance benefit package. Position starts August 17 2026.

SUMMARY Assist the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) and Custodial departments with maintaining a successful food service program and a neat and orderly building. Duties include preparing and serving food maintaining kitchen cleanliness and sanitation washing dishes receiving payment for meals and assisting with food ordering and inventory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Under the supervision of the Director of FNS assist in preparing food for the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs through the preparation and serving of food on the lunch line using safe food handling procedures.
• Stock and setup serving line and all necessary equipment needed to serve meals.
• Sanitize all dishes equipment floors tables sink etc. following all completion of daily school lunch/breakfast program service. Wash tables in common areas following each meal to ensure sanitary eating areas.
• Remove all trash and waste from the kitchen.
• Operate the Point of Sale lunch system and serve as cashier.
• Assist with ordering storing and inventorying food and supplies.
• Assist with opening and closing kitchen preparations including cleaning storage and stocking of inventory.
• Perform cleaning duties including emptying wastebaskets and transporting trash and recycled materials to disposal areas; replenish bathroom supplies monitor restrooms.
• Vacuum sweep and ensure cleanliness of hallways cafeteria lobbies lounges corridors elevators stairways storage areas and other workspaces.
• Follow Universal Precautions and sanitation procedures when handling clean-up of bodily fluids.
• Ensure all doors and windows are secure and appropriate evening lighting is in place.
• Perform building safety and operational checks including inspections for hazards graffiti and vandalism.
• Maintain cleaning equipment.
• Communicate with the supervisor regarding issues and supplies needed for the building.
• Assist with seasonal snow removal.
• Assess building readiness for daily occupancy and report to the supervisor.
• Engage in ongoing professional development
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent. Any combination of education training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions of the position.

EXPERIENCE: Kitchen prep or cooking food service experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:

None required. First Aide/CPR/AED training preferred. Criminal Background Check required for hire.

TECHNICAL SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

• Basic problem solving skills.
• Ability to acquire skills necessary to operate various types of cleaning equipment and snow removal equipment
• Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changes without notice.
• Basic mathematical and measuring skills for following recipes as well as making change for cashier transactions.
• Cashiering skills preferred.
• Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies Superintendent policies and building/department procedures.
• Ability to grow and develop knowledge skills and professional disposition through professional development.
• Ability to communicate interact and work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers to maintain a positive and professional work climate.
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace follow safety rules practice safe work habits utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

• Operating knowledge of basic custodial equipment preferred at hire; required within 3 months after entering position
• Knowledge of large volume food production serving and sanitizing equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of basic kitchen utensils including knives slicers thermometers and cleaning agents.
• Normal office equipment such as personal computer printer copier fax phone system e-mail.
