Job Summary
The Workshop Manager is responsible for the effective safe and cost-efficient management of the depot workshop. The role ensures maximum availability and reliability of fleet vehicles and workshop infrastructure through high-quality maintenance practices strong people leadership and strict adherence to safety and statutory requirements.
The position carries full accountability for workshop people assets stock systems and budgets with a strong focus on minimising downtime managing risk and driving continuous improvement.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Manage maintenance servicing and repairs of fleet busses Mercedes and MAN
- Implement and continuously improve preventative and planned maintenance programmes.
- Ensure quality control of all work before equipment is returned to operations.
- Lead manage and develop mechanics artisans buyers and workshop support staff.
- Manage spare parts availability procurement and stock control.
- Control workshop budgets maintenance costs tyres and outsourced services.
- Monitor fleet availability downtime and cost trends and report to management.
- Plan maintenance in line with operational requirements and production demands.
- Manage contractors suppliers and original equipment manufacturers.
- Ensure compliance with safety legislation statutory requirements and company policies.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records system integrity and reporting.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Trade Tested Diesel Mechanic or Mechanic (essential).
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate.
- 58 years experience in a workshop or fleet maintenance environment.
- Servicing of Man and Mercedes Busses and attend to breakdowns
- Quality Control by ensuring all tasks meet required standards
- Demonstrated people management experience in a technical environment.
