We are seeking an experienced Truck & Trailer Draughtsman to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed manufacturing drawings developing new trailer designs modifying existing products and providing technical support to production throughout the manufacturing process.
This role is ideal for a hands-on draughtsman with a strong background in the heavy vehicle truck trailer transport equipment or steel fabrication industry.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce accurate 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
  • Design and develop truck trailers trailer components and transport equipment.
  • Prepare fabrication welding machining and assembly drawings.
  • Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation.
  • Perform drawing revisions engineering change requests and document control.
  • Liaise closely with production procurement quality and engineering teams.
  • Ensure designs comply with company standards customer specifications and relevant industry regulations.
  • Assist with prototype development testing and product improvements.
  • Resolve manufacturing and assembly issues through practical engineering solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimise manufacturability quality and cost.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Draughting qualification (National Diploma N6 or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years experience in truck trailer heavy vehicle or transport equipment design.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks Inventor Creo or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Structural steel fabrication
    • Welding processes
    • Sheet metal design
    • Mechanical assemblies
    • Manufacturing drawings and tolerancing
  • Experience compiling Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Ability to interpret engineering calculations and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Valid drivers licence will be advantageous.
