Our client a leading commercial insurance specialist is seeking a Takaful Portfolio Manager to manage and grow a portfolio of brokers while driving profitable business growth within its specialist insurance division.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded insurance professional who enjoys building strong broker relationships identifying new business opportunities and delivering sustainable portfolio performance in a highly collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic business plan for your allocated broker portfolio.
  • Drive portfolio growth through new business acquisition and the expansion of existing broker relationships.
  • Manage and grow broker and binder portfolios to achieve Gross Written Contribution (GWC) profitability retention and growth targets.
  • Build long-term relationships with brokers through regular engagement and value-added service.
  • Analyse portfolio performance market trends and broker opportunities to improve business outcomes.
  • Deliver exceptional broker service while providing tailored insurance solutions.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions align with delegated authority governance requirements and underwriting guidelines.
  • Monitor portfolio profitability and implement corrective actions to achieve targeted loss ratios.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting standards operational procedures governance controls and Takaful principles.
  • Collaborate with underwriting claims operations and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that strengthen market presence and portfolio performance.
Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • RE5 qualification is essential.
  • RE1 will be advantageous.
  • Insurance or technical qualification will be advantageous.
  • Formal Business qualification will be advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years experience within the insurance industry across Commercial and Personal Lines.
  • Proven business development and/or portfolio management experience.
  • Experience working with insurance brokerages will be highly advantageous.
  • Valid drivers licence and own reliable vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
Highly Advantageous
  • Strong understanding of the South African insurance market.
  • Sound knowledge of underwriting principles and portfolio management.
  • Knowledge of insurance legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience managing profitable broker portfolios.
  • Strong commercial and business development capability.
