Role responsibilities
- Lead and manage structural design packages for medium-scale mining and industrial projects from feasibility through detailed design and construction support.
- Conduct detailed structural analysis and design for steel and concrete structures in accordance with relevant client South African and international standards.
- Conduct structural condition assessments audits and integrity evaluations of existing assets and develop repair strengthening and rehabilitation solutions.
- Prepare high-quality design calculations reports specifications scopes of work and design basis documentation that clearly communicate engineering intent.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical electrical civil process etc.) to deliver integrated practical and constructable project solutions.
- Review and approve structural drawings calculations and technical deliverables prepared by junior engineers drafters and modellers.
- Provide mentorship technical oversight quality assurance and oversight within the juniors of the structural team to develop their professional growth.
- Contribute to feasibility studies option development cost estimation project planning and proposal preparation for new opportunities.
- Proactively engage with clients contractors and stakeholders to ensure technical integrity constructability maintainability and delivery excellence.
- Undertake site inspections and construction support activities including review of workshop drawings and responses to technical queries.
- Promote safety sustainability and innovation in all design activities consistent with Zutaris values and engineering ethos.
Minimum requirements
- BSc or BEng in Civil/Structural Engineering from a recognised institution (postgraduate qualification advantageous).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant structural engineering experience in mining industrial or heavy engineering environments.
- Professional registration with ECSA as PrEng (or approved equivalent)
- Proven experience in the analysis and design of mining infrastructure industrial structures including equipment-supporting structures process plants and bulk materials handling infrastructure.
- Experience in structural condition assessments audits and rehabilitation of existing structures.
- Demonstrates proficiency in finite element analysis and dynamic analysis (modal harmonic time-history or vibration studies).
- Strong working knowledge of relevant South African and international design codes and large mining client standards.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant design codes and standards (European South African).
- Proficiency in common structural analysis and design software and sound understanding of CAD/BIM workflows.
- Experience with technical checking/review and engineering quality assurance.
- Good understanding of fabrication erection and construction/site constraints in industrial environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly and confidently.
- Willingness to travel to mining and industrial sites as required.
- Experience with coding and automation of processes and workflows to assist with daily tasks advantageous.
