The company continues to report financial results internally to its owners and lenders using US GAAP while its South African regional accounting team is responsible for ensuring full compliance with South African statutory tax and regulatory obligations alongside this group reporting.

Position Summary

The Junior Accountant / Staff Accountant will support the South African regional accounting team across statutory compliance management reporting balance sheet integrity and day-to-day financial operations. This is an entry-to-early-career role suited to a newly qualified or part-qualified accountant (SAIPA/SAICA trainee route) looking to build a career within a multinational US GAAP and local IFRS-reporting environment while developing strong South African regulatory and compliance knowledge.

What Youll Do:

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

• Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and quarter-end close within tight deadlines.
• Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations investigating and resolving discrepancies timeously.
• Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts including variance analysis against budget and prior periods.
• Reconcile and maintain general ledger accounts calculate and manage accruals and prepayments liaising with the business to ensure balances are adequate and supportable.

South African Statutory & Tax Compliance

• Assist with B-BBEE data gathering and reporting requirements as needed for South African contractual and procurement purposes.
• Maintain awareness of POPIA requirements when handling employee and customer financial data.
• Ensure correct VAT treatment on vendor bills processed.
• Internal Controls Audit & Group Compliance
• Support the annual statutory audit process including preparation of audit schedules and responses to auditor queries.
• Support compliance with the companys Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)-aligned internal control framework (retained from its previous public-listing era) including documentation and testing of controls.
• Ensure documented internal controls are followed to safeguard a strong internal control environment identifying efficiencies and improvement areas.

Treasury Fixed Assets & Systems

• Perform bank reconciliations and day-to-day treasury and cash reporting.
• Maintain and review the NetSuite Fixed Asset Register including depreciation calculations impairment testing disposals and reporting.
• Prepare intercompany entries and support multi-currency reporting and reconciliation.
• Business Support & Ad-Hoc
• Provide value-added analysis and support to other areas of the business as Mimecasts South African operations evolve.
• Undertake other duties as requested by the Finance Manager/Director including covering during periods of high workload or staff absence.

What Youll Bring:

• A relevant Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field (BCom Accounting Auditing).
• SAIPA or SAICA articles / trainee accountant route preferred; part-qualified or finalist ACCA/CIMA/CA(SA) candidates will also be considered.
• 13 years relevant accounting experience ideally including exposure to month-end close under deadline pressure.
• Working knowledge of South African tax legislation including the VAT Act Income Tax Act and Companies Act.
• Exposure to IFRS (or IFRS for SMEs) is essential; exposure to US GAAP is advantageous given Mimecasts US GAAP group reporting requirements.
• Experience with NetSuite or a similar ERP system is advantageous.

The base salary range for this position is ZAR plus benefits. This range represents the minimum and maximum new hire compensation for this role. The position may also be eligible for incentive plans and additional benefits in accordance with company policy and local regulations. Our salary ranges are determined by role level and location with individual compensation also dependent on factors such as qualifications experience and skills. Final offers will reflect these considerations and may vary accordingly.
