Job Summary

(SHEQ) OFFICER

The successful incumbent will report directly to the Sawmilling Production Executive.

  • Good written and verbal English communication skills
  • Xhosa language ability advantageous
  • Strong report writing and problem-solving skills
  • Sound knowledge of SHEQ systems legal compliance and implementation

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety & Health
  • Assist with OHS Act implementation and compliance monitoring
  • Conduct inspections identify hazards and report non-conformances
  • Support incident accident and near-miss investigations
  • Assist with risk assessments (HIRA) and safe work procedures
  • Monitor PPE compliance and contractor safety
  • Participate in Safety Committee meetings
Environmental
  • Support environmental management plan implementation
  • Monitor waste housekeeping and environmental controls
  • Assist with environmental compliance and permit requirements
  • Report environmental incidents and support corrective actions
Quality
  • Support implementation of quality procedures and work instructions
  • Assist with internal audits and corrective action tracking
  • Maintain document control and records
Compliance & Administration
  • Maintain SHEQ registers records and filing systems
  • Assist with legal compliance audits and ISO systems (9001 / 14001 / 45001)
  • Support training coordination and toolbox talks
  • Compile SHEQ reports and statistics


Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • SAMTRAC / NEBOSH / NOSA qualification or Diploma / Certificate in Safety Management (advantageous)
  • Additional Environmental or Quality training will be an advantage
  • Minimum 3 years experience in SHEQ systems compliance and auditing in line with the OHS Act
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments preferred
  • Computer literate (MS Office: Word Excel PowerPoint)
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Valid drivers licence and own reliable transport
