Senior Consultant

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished Senior Professional Electrical Engineer and Renewable Energy Specialist to join our electrical design team and grow our renewable energy service offering. This role is suited to a seasoned professional with over 20 years of relevant consulting experience with a strong track record in the design development and implementation of electrical renewable energy and power infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will play a strategic and technical leadership role across a diverse portfolio of projects including utility-scale renewable energy developments grid integration and energy transition initiatives within both the public and private sectors in South Africa in Africa and globally.

Desired Qualifications and Professional Registration

• A relevant qualification in electrical engineering energy systems or related field
• Minimum 20 years relevant working experience in electrical engineering and renewable energy projects in a consulting engineering environment
• Considered a well-known and respected expert internally and externally in field of expertise.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a PrEng/PrTech is required
• Extensive experience in renewable energy projects particularly solar PV wind and energy storage
• Proven track record in large-scale infrastructure or power sector projects
• Strong experience with grid integration and power systems analysis
• Deep understanding of South African energy market including Eskom frameworks and REIPPPP
• Strong technical expertise in power systems generation technologies and electrical design
• Strategic thinking and commercial acumen
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• Proven leadership and project management capability
• High level of analytical and problem-solving ability
• Experience working with multilateral development banks or IPPs
• Exposure to energy policy regulatory advisory or public-sector infrastructure projects
• Proficiency with electrical engineering design digital tools (i.e. Revit Revizto Dialux ETAP etc) and familiarity of energy modelling tools (i.e. DIgSILENT PVSyst or Homer etc.)

Duties and Responsibilities

We will entrust and rely on you to:

Role objectives include:

• Providing specialist technical leadership to the South Africa Electrical / Renewable Energy Engineering team reporting to the Associate Director / Director.
• Maintaining effective communication and relationship with our global teams / partners.
• Provide technical leadership on electrical / renewable energy engineering projects.
• Providing technical leadership mentoring and coaching to design engineers or technologists.
• Business development including leading bids and proposals.
• There will be a requirement to support our global teams on MCF & Industry projects.
• Manage and deliver the electrical / renewable energy engineering work packages in multiple projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

Technical Leadership

• Provide expert-level technical input on electrical engineering and renewable energy projects including solar PV wind battery storage and hybrid systems.
• Lead the design review technical due diligence and optimisation of energy generation and distribution systems.
• Oversee grid connection studies load flow analysis and system integration in alignment with local authority requirements.

Project Delivery & Advisory

• Lead multidisciplinary teams in delivering complex energy and infrastructure projects from feasibility through to implementation.
• Provide strategic advisory services on energy transition decarbonisation and sustainability initiatives.
• Support procurement processes including REIPPPP bid preparation tender evaluations and contract negotiations.
• Ensure compliance with South African regulatory frameworks standards and environmental requirements.

Client Engagement & Business Development

• Build and maintain strong relationships with partners clients including government departments financiers developers and utilities.
• Identify new business opportunities and contribute to proposal development and strategic growth initiatives.
• Represent the organisation in industry forums conferences and stakeholder engagements.

Financial & Commercial Oversight

• Contribute to financial modelling project feasibility studies and lifecycle cost analysis.
• Monitor project budgets timelines and risk profiles.
• Provide input into investment decisions and funding structures.

Mentorship & Knowledge Leadership

• Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff.
• Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and capability development.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in electrical engineering renewable energy and power systems.
