Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Developer for a 6-month contract opportunity in Stellenbosch within a prominent banking environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in TypeScript/JavaScript REST APIs microservices and scalable backend development with the ability to work in a fast-paced high-volume environment.

Senior Backend Developer 6 Month Contract

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join a prominent organisation within the banking and financial services sector on a 6-month contract.
We are looking for a strong backend engineer who is confident working in complex high-volume environments and has solid experience building scalable secure and reliable backend services and APIs.

Key Responsibilities

Design develop and maintain scalable backend applications and services using
Build and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices
Develop clean maintainable and high-quality production code
Work with databases and data-driven backend solutions
Integrate backend services with internal and third-party systems
Troubleshoot complex technical and production issues
Improve application performance reliability and scalability
Write and maintain automated unit and integration tests
Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical standards and best practices
Collaborate closely with developers architects QA product and business teams
Support CI/CD and modern software delivery practices
Provide technical guidance and mentorship where required

Requirements

Strong commercial experience as a Backend Developer / Software Engineer
Advanced experience with
Strong JavaScript and/or TypeScript development experience
Solid experience developing REST APIs
Experience working with microservices or distributed systems
Good understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases
Experience with automated testing and software engineering best practices
Understanding of Git CI/CD and modern DevOps environments
Experience with Docker Kubernetes or cloud platforms will be advantageous
Strong understanding of application security and secure API development
Ability to work independently and solve complex technical problems
Experience within banking fintech financial services or another high-volume transactional environment would be highly advantageous
