Our client is seeking a Senior SAP ABAP Developer to join a feature team at the Group IT Hub South Africa delivering IT solutions to the global Group.

You will be responsible for designing developing and enhancing custom ABAP programs reports and SAPUI5/Fiori applications that support SAP FICO processes while building integrations between SAP and external systems and providing production support across the SAP landscape.

ABAP & FICO Development: Design and develop custom ABAP programs reports and enhancements that support SAP FICO processes combining object-oriented ABAP and entity modelling with strong technical craftsmanship.

SAPUI5/Fiori & Integration: Build and maintain SAPUI5/Fiori applications and associated OData services while implementing robust interfaces between SAP and external systems (IDoc web services APIs).

Global Collaboration: Partner with FICO functional teams and Product Owners - including counterparts in Germany - translating business requirements into technical designs and supporting cutover go-live and production operations.

Who This Role Would Suit:

This role is ideal for a seasoned ABAP developer who is equally comfortable architecting backend FICO enhancements as they are building modern SAPUI5/Fiori front-ends. The strongest candidates will combine strong object-oriented ABAP and entity modelling skills with hands-on OData and Fiori experience allowing them to deliver end-to-end solutions across the SAP landscape.

They are self-directed professionals who thrive in globally distributed teams communicating confidently with FICO functional teams and Product Owners - including counterparts in Germany - and translating ambiguous business requirements into clean well-documented technical designs.

A background in SAP S/4HANA SAP Basis or enterprise UI/UX would be a distinct advantage but what matters most is a proven ability to deliver robust ABAP and Fiori solutions take ownership of production support and mentor junior developers within a fast-moving agile environment.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Related IT Computer Science or Software Development degree
• 7 years experience working with ABAP and SAPUI5
• Relevant SAP certifications will be advantageous but are not mandatory

ABAP & Enhancement Development:

• Strong ABAP development skills including object-oriented ABAP and entity modelling
• Hands-on experience with BAPIs BAdIs and the Enhancement Framework

Frontend & Integration:

• Experience with SAPUI5/Fiori front-end development
• Knowledge of integration with external systems (OData/file-based/SOAP/iDoc)
• Experience building and consuming OData services for UI5/Fiori applications
• Experience with integration patterns between SAP and non-SAP systems (web services interfaces)

Problem-Solving & Stakeholder Skills:

• Strong troubleshooting unit testing and technical documentation skills
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Strong interpersonal communication & presentation skills

Advantageous Skills:

• Functional understanding of SAP FICO modules
• Experience with SAP S/4HANA implementations
• Knowledge of SAP Basis transport management and release upgrade processes
• Java/JavaScript experience for Fiori extensibility and custom services
• Exposure to UI/UX design principles for enterprise applications
• Experience with Jira and Confluence for delivery and documentation
• German language skills (advantageous)

Key Responsibilities:

• Requirements Analysis: Understand and interpret business requirements
• ABAP Development: Design and develop custom ABAP programs reports and enhancements to support SAP FICO processes
• Fiori Development: Develop and maintain SAPUI5/Fiori applications and associated OData services
• Integration: Implement interfaces and integrations between SAP and external systems (IDoc web services APIs)
• Solution Design: Translate business requirements from the FICO functional team into technical designs and deliverables
• Stakeholder Workshops: Participate in solution design workshops with stakeholders and provide technical recommendations
• Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation including design specs unit test plans and deployment notes
• Testing: Perform unit testing support integration testing and resolve defects in a timely manner
• Go-Live Support: Support cutover and go-live activities including transports and weekend support when required
• Performance Optimization: Optimize the performance of custom programs and interfaces across the SAP landscape
• Production Support: Provide L2/L3 support for production incidents and work with operations to resolve issues
• Continuous Improvement: Proactively propose technical improvements and automation opportunities for FICO processes
• Mentorship: Mentor junior developers and collaborate within an agile multi-disciplinary team
• Stakeholder Alignment: Maintain regular alignment with stakeholders and product owners
• Support & Maintenance: Support and maintain existing and new applications/systems
• Lifecycle Delivery: Assist throughout the entire software lifecycle from design and customizing through testing go-live and operate
• Global Collaboration: Travel to meet counterparts in Germany when applicable

Location & Relocation: This is a hybrid role requiring rotation across the Midrand Menlyn and Rosslyn offices alongside home-office days with occasional travel to Germany when required.
