Job Description

Our client is seeking an accomplished Principal Deal Originator to lead the origination development and execution of high-impact infrastructure transactions. This senior role requires a commercially astute professional who can build influential partnerships develop bankable opportunities and drive sustainable economic and developmental impact.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute deal origination and business development strategies across priority sectors and markets.
  • Build a robust pipeline of viable high-value infrastructure projects.
  • Originate structure and support the successful closure of complex financing transactions.
  • Establish trusted relationships with government stakeholders investors banks development finance institutions and private-sector partners.
  • Identify client challenges and coordinate innovative commercially sound funding solutions.
  • Secure concessional funding and expand the organisations client base across South Africa and the broader African continent.
  • Present transactions and strategic recommendations to investment committees executive leadership and boards.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams while mentoring junior professionals.
  • Monitor market developments competitor activity and regional trends to identify new opportunities.
Requirements:
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in Business Finance Engineering or Economics such as an MBA CA(SA) or CFA.
  • At least 10 years experience in infrastructure project finance structured finance or corporate lending within a development finance institution commercial bank or similar financial institution.
  • A proven record of originating structuring and closing large-scale infrastructure transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing bankable project pipelines across South Africa and/or Africa.
  • Strong networks among government stakeholders private investors banks and development finance institutions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of African financial regulatory infrastructure and macroeconomic environments.
  • Strong commercial judgement stakeholder management and strategic leadership capabilities.
  • Exceptional senior-level communication negotiation and deal-closing skills.
  • The ability to operate effectively within complex and highly political environments.
