Position Purpose
A pilots primary duty is to use his/her skills and knowledge to protect the ship from collision
grounding and other hazard by providing accurate and timely navigational advice to the vessel
master. Where so approved by the master the pilot may be required to safely conduct the
navigation and manoeuvring of the vessel whilst in pilotage waters
The pilot is further responsible;
For the manoeuvring of the vessel within port limits having due regard for safety of the
vessel its crew and the environment.
Is also there to ensure the safe and efficient docking / undocking and shifting of vessels
within port limit.
Must recognise that the observance of good seamanship dictates that operational
contingency plans be available at all times
Provide the master with an efficient service by sharing with them his/her professional ship handling ship skills and his local knowledge.

Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications & Experience:STCW class 3 or equivalent qualificationMinimum Years Relevant Experience:Sea going experience: min 12 months on foreign sea going boat master: 12 months tug handling experience in order to obtain a Master Port Operations.
