Job Description

Our client a leading provider of electronic manufacturing services in South Africa is looking to hire a Millwright for their Maintenance Department based in the Durban area. The purpose of the Millwright is to install maintain and optimise production equipment and automated machinery in a high-tech electronics manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will focus on preventive maintenance of production lines and building facilities interpret technical drawings and schematics manage external contractors and perform troubleshooting to minimise downtime ensure equipment reliability and support maximum plant efficiency.

Educational Requirement & Experience:

  • Completed Red Seal Millwright Trade Test
  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering or a related technical field would be advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years post-trade experience in a manufacturing environment with proven exposure to both facilities maintenance and production line equipment.
  • Experience in electronic or high-tech manufacturing (SMT lines automated assembly cleanroom environments).
  • Knowledge of PLCs servo drives robotics and automated systems.
  • Valid drivers license and own transport (if required for the site).
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding and repair skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings electrical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Excellent knowledge of preventive maintenance principles and practices.
  • Good project and contractor management skills.
  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to zero-harm practices.
  • Willingness to work shifts overtime and standby duties as required.

Job Description:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production line equipment automated machinery and related systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections diagnostics repairs and overhauls of mechanical electrical pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Manage building facilities maintenance including electrical distribution plumbing and general infrastructure.
  • Develop implement and continuously improve preventive maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Diagnose equipment faults quickly and efficiently to reduce production downtime.
  • Manage external contractors including quoting scope definition supervision quality control and compliance with safety and company standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records equipment history and spare parts inventory.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health & safety regulations quality standards and environmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with production teams to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption to manufacturing output.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing practices.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
