The Role

The School of Biomedical Nutritional and Sport Sciences part of our Faculty of Medical Sciences is seeking to appoint a passionate and committed Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences on a permanent basis. We would particularly like to hear from individuals with interests in immunology and / or data science.

As a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in the School you will be significantly involved in the development and delivery of a range of high-quality teaching and learning activities to support the Biosciences suite of programmes. There will also be opportunities to contribute to other UG and PG degree programmes within the School. As well as developing and delivering teaching activities the role includes marking assessments UG and/or PG project supervision providing pastoral support and participating in the management and administration of the degree programme(s) as required. Applicants will need a PhD in an appropriate discipline with prior teaching experience.

• To provide high quality teaching and learning and student support
• Mentor and support students throughout their studies in the role of academic advisor
• Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with University standards and utilise on-line and digitised curricula and education frameworks
• Contribute to curriculum development
• Contribute to pedagogical research projects
• Ensure all our students benefit from studying ina research intensive research excellent academic environment
• Provide education for life that engages challenges and supports our students to discover and fulfil their potential both while they are studying with us and once they have graduated

• Contribute to the VisionMission and Strategy of the School and University
• Operate as an active citizen in the School of Biomedical Nutritional and Sport Sciences

• Support national and international activities for the development of the discipline
• Take responsibility for a defined management or administrative role such as Module Leader Year Lead Degree Programme Director Research Director Outreach Co-ordinator

• Experience of delivering research-led teaching in core biomedical sciences making effective use of technology to enhance learning
• Ability to engage with external stakeholders generating real-world impact
• Ability to design and supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate students research projects
• Strong qualitative research skills (desirable)
• Experience of leading and publishing pedagogical research (desirable)
• Experience of working in or with business the third sector and/or policy (desirable)
• Experience of coordinating and leading modules or courses in higher education (desirable for lecturer; essential for senior lecturer)
• Proven ability to mentor junior staff (desirable for lecturer; essential for senior lecturer)
• Ability to provide leadership to teaching teams (desirable for lecturer; essential for senior lecturer)

Qualifications

• A good Honours degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Sciences or a related subject
• PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area
• Recognised Postgraduate teaching qualification/ Advance HE Fellowship accreditation or equivalent; (Desirable)
