Job Summary

Our client in the hospitality and property sector in Ballito is seeking a Junior Accountant to take full ownership of the core accounting function. The successful candidate will manage the complete accounting cycle from processing transactions through to drafting annual financial statements while supporting the business with accurate timely financial information for decision making.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting
  • Prepare accurate monthly quarterly and annual management accounts
  • Compile and analyse income statements balance sheets and cash flow statements
  • Provide financial insights and variance analysis to management
Bookkeeping & Transactions
  • Maintain complete and accurate general ledgers across all entities
  • Process and reconcile all financial transactions to trial balance
  • Ensure correct allocation coding and posting of journals
Accounts Payable & Receivable
  • Manage the full creditors and debtors functions
  • Process supplier invoices payments and reconciliations
  • Monitor debtor collections age analysis and credit control
Tax Preparation
  • Prepare and submit VAT PAYE and other statutory returns via SARS eFiling
  • Assist with provisional and annual income tax computations
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with SARS requirements and deadlines
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts
  • Monitor performance against budget and report on variances
  • Support cash flow planning and projections
Auditing
  • Prepare audit files and supporting schedules
  • Liaise with external auditors and address audit queries
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies
Annual Financial Statements
  • Draft annual financial statements in compliance with applicable reporting standards
  • Prepare year end journals reconciliations and supporting working papers
Key Requirements:
  • BCom in Accounting or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 35 years relevant accounting experience preferably up to the drafting of annual financial statements
  • Experience in the hospitality property or multi-entity environment advantageous
  • Completed SAIPA / SAICA articles advantageous if applicable
  • Working knowledge of accounting software (Pastel Partner / Sage / CaseWare experience advantageous)
  • Proficiency in MS Excel (VLOOKUP pivot tables)
